I remember a story my mom told me from when I was about four or five. We were visiting some family friends, and when my dad said, “Well, we have a few things to do and some places to go,” I interrupted and said, “No we don’t —we're going home!" I remember walking into the living room where my parents were entertaining guests. I had heard this new word on the school bus, and I blurted out in front of all of them, "What does F-ck mean?" I remember that it was the very first time I'd heard the word, and I truly had zero idea it was anything negative, so I blurted out this question like I was asking about how gravity works. I was too young for a real explanation. I was probably 6 or 7. I just remember Mom advising that it was not a word for kids and like the other "swear" words best avoided. Mom was a tad mortified....Dad and the other guys were trying not to bust out laughing. There were some laughs. I remember that. It wouldn't take long before the "kids on the bus" would explain what it meant along with all other wisdoms of the expanding juvenile world.
