Subject: 25 Albums by 25 Artists (Part Two)

This comes from a longer list of over 100 male and female music artists that I would type as they came to mind, and then I used Rate Your Music ratings to determine which albums to choose (I did not just factor in highest-rated, but also the numbers of ratings and reviews my own way so not all will have the very highest rating there, but I did noot want to skew it more towards my favourites than my biases and thoughts would have already played in what came to mind).
This is part two, in part one I only included male artists, and I do expect to do two more. I had hoped that these list would be varied enough for most of the forum members to find and comment on something of interest at least in each poll. Here is part one: https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=134930" rel="nofollow - CLICK
Feel free to vote for up to five albums from the list that you appreciate/like.
Ian Anderson: The Secret Language of Birds Jon Anderson: Olias of Sunhillow Laurie Anderson: Big Science Bobby Beausoleil (& Freedom Orchestra): Lucifer Rising Björk: Vespertine Kate Bush: Hounds of Love Richard Dawson: Peasant Brian Eno: Here Come the Warm Jets Fish: Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors Bo Hansson: Sagan om ringen Eddie Henderson: Realization Jimi Hendrix (Experience): Electric Ladyland Steve Hillage: Fish Rising Mike Keneally: Sluggo Geddy Lee: My Favourite Headache Nico: Desertshore Phideaux (Xavier): Doomsday Afternoon Chris Squire: Fish Out of Water Roine Stolt: The Flower King David Sylvian: Secrets of the Beehive Jannick Top: Infernal Machina Jean-Claude Vannier: L'enfant assassin des mouches Miroslav Vitous: Infinite Search Igor Wakhevitch: Hathor Frank Zappa: Hot Rats

Hansson, Hillage, Phideaux, Squire, and Zappa. Today is a good day to pickle my algebra.

Listen to these at least a couple of times each year:
Kate Bush: Hounds of Love Bo Hansson: Sagan om ringen Eddie Henderson: Realization Jean-Claude Vannier: L'enfant assassin des mouches Bobby Beausoleil (& Freedom Orchestra): Lucifer Rising
Love these as well, but they get less spins:
Steve Hillage: Fish Rising Nico: Desertshore Frank Zappa: Hot Rats Miroslav Vitous: Infinite Search Igor Wakhevitch: Hathor (I can't believe I'm not voting for this, but unlike Docteur Faust I haven't actually revisited it in ages)

Hard one this. From top to bottom it's Bjork, Kate Bush, Steve Hillage, Nico, David Sylvian, Jannick Top, Frank Zappa. Kate Bush has currently most of these with just 2 votes, but chances are there will be more. I also guess Hot Rats will have enough votes without my help, so I vote for the other five.

Electric Ladyland. Then Hot Rats a distant second. The rest? Meh.

This was harder than I thought it would be, and I was surprised at how many albums I'm a huge fan of. So I'm leaving out some favourites, but... Fish Rising Hot Rats Secrets Of The Beehive Realization Infernal Machina
------------- "The wind is slowly tearing her apart"
"Sad Rain" ANEKDOTEN

Squire, Anderson J, Anderson L., Fish (his only very good solo album), Bush. I would have voted also for: Zappa, Phideaux, Hillage, Hansson, Hendrix
------------- I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I wont pretend I can do 5. Not keen on the solo albums by Yes members which to me are well below the level of the band and have never been a Zappa fan. So for me it's Kate Bush and that's it. She is unique and remarkable and stands alone as an art pop princess.

I really wanted to cover some things outside my wheelhouse that I thought certain members might appreciate, but I have a feeling that it is still not diverse enough. :)

Like a few other posters, for me, outside the Hendrix and Squire albums, which I voted for, the rest of list I'm not much of a fan.

With various topics, I'm just happy when i can find one thing I like. This came up in another recent topic (essexboy's for his 25th wedding anniversary) where I only really knew one reasonably well. Paul has been doing various ones where I know none, and others where I like lots. But commonly I find multiple things to like in others people's topics even if my major interests tend to be different, the list are reasonably eclectic, and I share 60s and 70s loves with the vast majority of forum members at PA. Post 70s I am less likely to find convergences of interests with disparate people.
I think those topics where we present our own lists could often work better than polls (at least when it comes to trying to attract a wide audience), but my issue with that is that the lists often don't get commented on so there is less discussion and interaction in those kinds of topics commonly. I like the more interactive topics (more chance of connecting with people over interests, ideas, experiences, or just for joking around with others) . Whether I know and enjoy the choices or not, I enjoy seeing what others are into, I catalog that info in my silly brain, and then checking music out based on seeing it in other's lists.
I do quite rarely vote in my own polls, even if they, like this, were meant to appeal to a winder audience and specific members who may not enjoy my topics and interests generally, or just get annoyed by me (I know I annoy me) but here is my top five from this poll.
Bobby Beausoleil - Lucifer Rising Kate Bush - Hounds of Love Richard Dawson - Peasant Nico - Desertshore Jean-Claude Vannier: L'enfant assassin des mouches
Realization should be there too, I added it to PA and wrote a five star review, but I have not listened to it in years. I do adore that Laurie Anderson album, first heard it in full in 1989 when visiting my bro in Australia. Wakhevitch is a favourite, but like Saperlipopette!, I have not listened to it in years. And I would have voted for his Docteur Faust (I let RYM choose the album for me as said). I also like Hot Rats. And I love the Bo Hansson. and I really like that Sylvian (wonderful) and I like Hendrix and love the Miroslav Vitous... And I like the Top... Voting for just five is an exercise in futility to me. More enthusiasm than "meh" for me, to reference Greg's post, but then I did make the poll so it's to be expected. Despite being depressive and often pessimistic, I am more of a "Yeah!" guy than a "meh" guy (at least vocally so in terms of how I like to interact with others). I like to see and express enthusiasm commonly, but negativity begets negativity, and I can be too negatively critical (I do believe in trying to keep an open, while sensible, mind about things generally and not to be easily dismissive, and to be careful about forming and expressing opinions on that which I don't know well). Realism over optimism or pessimism, though.
Shared this before elsewhere, but here is video I like of Ogre from Peasant (that kind of quirky avant-folk would not appeal to many people here, but it's very up my alley).
Note: I am not recommending that video to anyone. I'm just sharing something that I like.

That Chris Squire album is amazing. There’s a great video of him singing and playing Hold Out Your Hand and Bill Bruford is there, too, having a good old time. What an amazing piece of music, let alone bass-centric music. What a voice, too! He was the real deal.
