stupid, stupid scenario of course. But...with only 5 LPs/CDs to choose from, which prog albums here on PA would you select to take with you as you die of dehydration on this hypothetical desert isle?

for me:

King Crimson - Larks' Tongues In Aspic
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Gong - You
National Health - Of Queues and Cures
Beardfish - Sleeping In Traffic Part Two

-------------
"My own response to King Crimson is one of quiet terror." - Robert Fripp

Fishmans - 98.12.28 Otokotachi no wakare
Magma - Kobaďa
Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind
Godpeed You Black Emperor! - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts

Bonus exercise medium (just because I'm dying of thirst does not mean I don't want buns of steel): Robert Wyatt's Rock Bottom

-------------
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Ignoring prog-related (otherwise Argus by Wishbone Ash would have to be one of my picks):

The Yes Album
Mirage - Camel
Metropolis Part 2 - Dream Theater
Bridge Across Forever - Transatlantic
Sola Scriptura - Neal Morse

I wouldn't be in the right mood for listening to music when I'm dying of dehydration to be frank.

keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

King Crimson- Islands...In the 70s and 80s I used to visit East Point lighthouse and listened to Islands on cassette through a Sony boom box. The album seemed to be from a pirate's perspective. A pirate like Anne Bonny

National Health.....Mainly because of Amanda Parsons. I don't mean to sound selfish...and I love Stewart,Gowen,compositions..but her voice on this particular album is mind blowing to me!! To be honest..I've never heard anyone like her. Maybe Annie Haslam has that flow and tone..but Amanda Parsons has an overall affect regarding her vocals which differs from many great singers.

Gong- You
Possibly my favorite style of Space Rock. First find a swing set for adults then listen. Each note and beat of the various instruments affects the physical and mental state. In some cases the repetition of Sprinkling Of Clouds creates a hypnotic state or if not....daydreaming.

Sky II
Fine instrumental album which combines elements of Rock with Classical.

The Enid- In The Region Of The Summer Stars
I cannot live without this album and many of its signature lines and chord changes are in my head permanently. Sometimes I imagine places and have Visions when I listen to it. I like the 1984 rerecorded version the best . The piece "Fool" is a kind of question and answer process and that transcends into bells and ambient keyboards with a sound that is reminiscent of dolphins. This particular introduction does not exist on the original recording of In The Region Of The Summer Stars. "The Demon King" is more impressive sounding on the re-recorded version. The piece itself is bewitching not unlike early King Crimson and Gentle Giant.

What, and how you write about music is always interesting. But these four sentences formulate the experience of listening to You, with images and words:) I couldn't have come up with myself. But it's spot on.

In full agreement in regard to the voice of Amanda Parsons. I just wish there was much more of her to discover.
