BBC 4 have just started the new series of HHGTTG, 'the tertiary phase'. I was wandering what people thought of it compared to the original series. Personally I think its a good attempt but doesnt quite live up to the original 2 series. I just ordered the Dvd of the television series a few days ago. Its a good laugh. The DVD of the TV series is excellent, lots of good extras on it, and very nicely packaged. Thanks for the pointer on the new series, I hadn't spotted that. |

I loved the books & the radio series, but was never too keen on the TV series (too much in the way of BBC low budget special effects, as in 'Blakes 7' for my taste)....
Any book that contains the (paraphrased) line: several billion megatons of fusing hydrogen nuclei dragged itself reluctantly over the far hozizon, and managed to look small, cold, and slightly damp" is OK by me - I'll keep an eye out for this new series, though; thanks for the heads up. -------------

Yeah theres a film in the making. I think HHGTTG has the potential to make a brilliant film with all the special effects and watnot thats about now. I think the radio series plays on tuesday evenings. ------------- Long live progression. Will |

Loved the books, and TV series. I like the idea of a film, but there is surely only so much they can cover in 2 hours or so. The whole story is very long. I think Martin Freeman (?) from 'The office' is going to play Ford Prefect. Anyone know whos playing Arthur Dent?? Here I am, brain the size of planet and they want to me to stop messing about on the Internet and get back to work... ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

I agree that it would be very difficult to squeeze it into 1 film. I guess they are just takling the first book/radio series. Then again they managed to pull lord of the rings off. Im not sure about whos playing who but you can find out on the net most probably. Yes. I read a book about never made movies and it quoted Adams with saying they better adapt just the first book. Recently ,I also read an interview with the screenwriter they brought on to finish what Adams left and he agreed with that. I'm a great moviegoer, I work in a movie channel and I have even evaluated screenplays. And I must say I see the adaptation of this book as a extremly difficult task. Much more difficult that it seems. I hope it all ends well. |

The best thing they could do IMO, is to produce 3 or four films covering all the books. That way they could include everything in the books, give us film lovers three or four films to indulge in at the cinema, and of course collect in limited edition box set on DVD six months later.  ------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy! |

The first two books were spot on; bollock bustingly funny and insigtful but after that, it became a little pedestrian for me. Dear old Douglas only wrote one good book after that (IMO) called 'Last Chance to see'. I've yet to see the new series but any chance to see his work on the TV must be a good thing. We can all hope :) yeah Zaphods other head was pretty rubbish but i think that because of the way HHGTTG is it just added to the humor. P.S you can hear the new radio series on the bbc 4 website, it has episode 2 at the moment but i think ill download the lot off winmx or something. ------------- Long live progression. Will |
