I've heard both samples of this Canadian band and I rarely have loved prog rock epics at a first listen. This is the best prog folk music I've ever heard! (with Jethro Tull and Renaissance coming close) I've heard that their second album's highlight is not the sample. It is a 15+ minute epic.
I'm very interested ... any fans of Harmonium?
Finally, I've discovered brilliant prog from Canada! It's not all Rush.

Everytime someone discovers Harmonium, I'm pretty happy about it. They deserve to be up there with the best of 'em. If they had sung in english, I'm sure they would be more recognized. They are amazing.
The second album's highlight you are talking about is Histoire sans parole and what a piece of music it is! It is among my favorite songs ever.
BTW, I'm pretty happy they sang in french even if I said that they would have been more popular if they sang in english. I'm proud of my country and of my native language.

I listened both songs again .... L'Exil is my favourite of the two and ranks up there with the best prog rock epics of the 70s, but Depuis (my least favourite) is still a masterful song with amazing vocal harmonies!
Both are complete masterpieces.
I hope I can buy these albums.

I forgot to say how I ADORE Serge Fiori's voice. He sur is one of my favorite vocalist ever. He sounds like an angel. Wow! Simply beautiful!

PA member Sid Smith, wrote a blog: Now This Is What I Call Harmonium Volume 1 in the Sid Smith Diaries last summer - I wonder if we can get Sid to resurrect it here?

I read a topic last week where harmonium was mentioned, and I listened to the samples and felt exactly the same. I hunted down a copy on the internet for $8 and its en route, I really can't wait.

I also discovered Harmonium thanks to Prog Archives. I've only just picked up the live album "En Tournee" to complete my collection. Haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, but I'm sure I won;t be disappointed .
Personally, I'm glad the vocals are in French. I don't speak French myself, but they still sound just right. Does that make any sense at all?
Zitro, I would recommend that you also check out "Au-dela des ombres" by Ere G (See their entry on this site). The track "Infantes" is just wonderful. Another fine example of Quebecois Prog-Folk!

I bought Si on Avait Besoin D'une
5ieme Saison a few months ago, and I still don't know how I can express
my adoration for this album enough. Masterpiece just doesn't describe
it.
Today, I received L'Heptade in the mail. You can get it quite cheap on
Ebay actually, I payed about 12 english pounds for the original
canadian pressing in almost mint condition (The vinyl that is.
The sleeve is only excellent). I have only listened to it once, but MY
GOD this is exciting ! Too soon to say if it is the same masterpiece as
their second album, but it is really really promising !
Amazing band.

The samples do sound delightful. Are the other tracks on the two albums from which the samples came as good as the samples? Or are the samples the cream on the top?

The samples are just the sprinkles on the ice cream.

Si on Avait besoin is a great album.
I wonder how you feel listening to Histoire sans parole, a 15 minute epic which imo is even better than Depuis l'automme.

You clearly haven't heard the brilliant Irish band Horslips, then. Good though Harmonium undoubtedly are, Horslips blow them away. I would also rate Gryphon, Strawbs and Mostly Autumn above them in the prog folk field. But that's probably true of most bands, actually.

OK, I borrowed "Si On Avait Besoin d'une 5ième Saison" from a Prog acquaintance and it is indeed excellent. He does not have "L'Heptade", but the sample from "L'Heptade" in the Archives also sounds excellent so I've ordered both CDs from Amazon Canada (the lowest prices I could find). Expensive hobby...
To keep the price down I've gone for Amazon Canada's cheapest postal rate (which looks like surface mail to me, via the old Pond) as they quote 1 to 2 weeks to ship "Si On Avait Besoin d'une 5ième Saison", 24 hours to ship "L'Heptade" and 8 to 12 weeks for "standard international shipping"! So I'll let you know my opinion of "L'Heptade" at the end of May or sometime in June!
Anyway... nice to discover something I actually like, which seems to be a rare occurrence these days. (Mind you, most of the stuff I have heard in the last few years that I like turns out to have come from the 1970s.)

I'm with you two but in the "better than CTTE" part. I can't say what
is my best album (too hard) but is definatly in the top 5 of mine.

All you guys who haven't heard L'Heptade, you should definitely check it out as well. It's almost as good as Si On Avait ... It's different, perhaps slightly over-long, but pretty fantastic, nevertheless.

EBAY, man
The "Buy it now" costs around $8-15 plus shipping while the bidding ones can end up being supercheap.
The bad thing are the shipping costs.
You should get their 2nd album ... also the first one is amazing. The third one is a little more complicated and I need to digest it more in order to make a review out of it. I think the 3rd one is a disappointment, even if the band is proggier than the perfection that is the 2nd album.

I started to listen to prog music with Harmonium. This is simply the best prog band ever; they got right to the heart of it and captured the essence of the 70s more than any other band.
