NO

NO

NO

These people belive they understand the meaning of music.  Also, they act depressed becasue it is en vogue.  Moreover, most of the emo bands are far from depressing, and rather abraisively gay if you ask me.

If this frew of individuals listened to Slowdive, VDGG, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus perhaps, The Cure, Discipline,  they would be justified in being increasingly depressed and despondent.

On a personael level, I entered my local record shop one day becasue I heard they had the NEU! 2 album remastered, an anomoly where I live, and wanted to buy it, however, the kid working the shop put on some insufferable emo music, felt queazy, seriously,  headed back to my car, and on my way back I threw up on the side of road.  Emo Music I feel so disconcerted anytime I hear emo, Its makes me very uncomfortable, Its too "Open" for me.

Bear in Mind, I was fine before I entered the store.

EMO Music does make me ill.

That is what makes my daughter mad.She dresses emo, listens to emo music(not exclusively though),and if I say my daughter is emo the first thing I hear is something about either suicide or cutting.

Not about this post but awhile ago I said my daughter was emo,the reply I got was..."Is she a cutter?"

I told my daughter this and she rolled her eyes and said...."the world is full of idiots".

i can dig the whole stereotype thing. i listen to weird music and black metal and folks think i do drugs and/or worsip the devil.

i do neither-i just like things of a dark nature. probably because i find it inspiring for the things i do. possibly because it requires alot of thought and creativeness than light, happy music...

Very True, Very True.   I wholly agree with that stement, dark, depressing music is most definietly more inspired than happy, cheerful music.  Its more poigant becasue it shows the artists sincerely articulating a personal struggle and usually the end product this is brilliance see "House With No Door" ect....

If I correctly understand what "emo" means, I think I had an emo phase for a year or two in my early teens.  Is this the new term for people who wear Doc Martens and love bands like Morrissey/Smiths and the Dead Kennedys?  (Possibly with updated bands).  Or did I hang with a pseudo-punk crowd?  Who knows - I didn't care, I'd chill with anyone - punks, metalheads, nerds, jocks, etc.

Emo does not stand for 'emotion', it stands for 'emocore', which respectively stands for 'emotional hardcore', which is a genre that was born in the 80's and has been dead since then.

All the awful mallcore and pop punk bands that spring to your mind when you hear the word 'emo' are not, countrary to the mainstream belief, emo. Thank you for your attention.

No, you weren't, at least by the modern standards. LOL Morissey/Smiths and Dead Kennedys are cool, but not emo. Today would be something like this:

Emo music is like Dashboard Confessional, Bright Eyes, AFI, Hawthorne Heights, My Chemical Romance (a personal favorite of James) and Thursday.

Thanks, don't know a phrase that described what I was then! LOL

No offense to anyone who likes the above bands, but I catch videos or hear them on radio every now and then, and I honestly can't differentiate among them.  Maybe I just don't listen enough, but I don't see what each "new" one of these bands is bringing to the table.

that's an amazing hand,

futhermore, i'm not emo.

and even futhermore, lots of music (progressive and non) has what could be considered (when taken into account with the "trend") "emo" influences and even some emo sound (a.k.a. the lyrics are just as depressing for King Crimson's "Epitaph" as they are for say Circa Survive's "Act Appaled"). If we take the music into account, there are "real" emo bands, and the newer "trend" emo bands. Personally, of the both I can enjoy some of it.

Here's a short example of some good, "real" emo-- At-the-Drive-In, Rite of Springs

And some good "trendy" emo: The Fall of Troy, YouInSeries, many of Anthony Green's (of Cicra Survive) side projects (such as The Sound of Animals Fighting) and Circa Survive themselves, and also Portugal. The Man, etc...

For both the list goes on.

So, even though the trend/fashion statement is kind of worthless, let us not disown the whole musical genres because of their tag. I am a MUSIC lover, I'll listen to anything, regardless of tags before I decide whether or not I like it.

I do not dress emo or keep up with the trend/fashion statement, but that's not to say I don't or cannot enjoy some of the music.

Something wrong with that?
Not entirely. Just watch her wrists.

Don't buy into all the stereotypes.

I don't buy into all the stereotypes- I did mean it tongue-in-cheek. Perhaps a nice smiley to soften it would have helped. Wink

Yes, I am...

Ok... so I'm not really... but that is me from last year^.  Hahaha, I went emo for a day to piss off the emo kids.  Now I know what it feels like to steam-roll your testicles... those pants were TIGHT.  Hahaha... good times.  One of my many senior-year high school pranks, but by far my best one.  That became totally infamous.  And an angry parent of an emo kid even called the school after I did it in protest.  Never did get in any trouble for it, thankfully.

I tend to despise Emo music and Emo people, but there are exceptions of course (in the case of People, the music is all bad in my opinion).

As far as Emoo goes, the fail to understand the meaning of depression, they simply openely despondent becasue it is en vogue, not becasue they are genuinely sad.

All the awful mallcore and pop punk bands that spring to your mind when you hear the word 'emo' are not, countrary to the mainstream belief, emo. Thank you for your attention.

I borrowed my Friends ipod in Study Hall yesterday ansd listened to Minor Threat.  The first hardcore band ever.  Their hwole discogpahy fits on one cd and its about a half hour long.

I was not that bad to be honest, It has been profoundly influential on a number present-day ahrdecore artists though.
