Can anybody tell me how much better the 2 disc Marillion remasters are? I'm planning on a dding to my Marillion collection, and I can get everything up through Season's End in an older, one disc form for less than $10 each. The new remasters would cost me a little more than $16 each, and I'm not quite sure that they are that much better (or that the bonus discs are that worth it) to buy those instead.

Well the two disc version of Script has versions of Market Square Heroes and Grendel (the latter of which is hard to find in CD format). All the Fish era albums feature songs that were on the singles and not released on the main albums as well (Cinderella Search for Fugazi and Tux On for Clutching at Straws, for example). They aren't necessary, but if you like rare tracks and some pretty cool early versions then you'll enjoy the 2 disc remaster.

My ears can't hear the difference, I do enjoy having the bonus discs though.

I have the 2 disc version for Script and Fugazi. Script... was well worth it for the 2 CD version as the second disc contains all the songs from the Market Square Heroes EP (Grendal, MSH, Three Boats Down From the Candy and Charting The Single) and a couple of early demos for He Knows You Know and Chelsea Monday. The second disc for Fugazi is pretty pointless IMO though.

Charting the Single wasn't on MSH for your information.Wink

I'm perfectly satisfied with my one-disk versions of Script, Misplaced Childhood, and Clutching at Straws. Fugazi has rather weak bonus tracks.

I would agree (because Fugazi is the only two disc Fish Marillion album I have, except for a downloaded Disc 2 of CaS).Wink

isnt Cinderella Search on the Fugazi bonus disc?

Surely acknowledged as one of Marillion's greatest and a mystery as to how it didnt make it onto an album proper!!!

Brilliant lyrics too...

On the rebound, fumbling all the lines
The light at the end of the bottle - alcoholic alphabet
Through the looking glass the proof in my own reflection
Five senses down and reeling on the Cinderella search

On the rebound, fumbling all the lines
Decay on the vertical hold with a horizontal aim
Conversation needs translation
Three dimensions down dissolving on the Cinderella search, Cinderella search

On the rebound, fumbling all the lines
Dreaming bartenders, bourbon and saxophone
Out of luck, out of charm, out the game of rejections in a cigarette city
Only courting the homing of direction on the Cinderella search, Cinderella search

But the Samaritan of the heartbroken, heartbroken
Swam through the nicotine seize, and we exchanged the kiss of life
Resurrection in a trance, the model, the Grail, in a Marquee of promises
I touched the dream, I hold the dream, I have the dream
To end the Cinderella search, Cinderella search, oh no more, no more!

Exposing bedside manners on a work extension
Awaiting development with paranoid Polaroid eyes, Polaroid eyes

The footman memorised the number
But the prince still holds both the slippers
And would you leave a palace for a bedsit
And Canterbury Tales, Canterbury Tales?

Maybe it was infatuation or the thrill of the chase
Maybe you were always beyond my reach and my heart was playing safe
But was that love in your eye I saw or the reflection of mine?
I'll never really know for sure, you never really gave me time
Give me time, won't you give me that time!

Welcome back to the circus
Welcome back to the circus
Welcome back to the circus

I always use the cue sheets but never the nets
Always the cue sheets but never the nets
Never the nets, never the nets
Nevertheless, nevertheless, nevertheless, nevertheless, nevertheless

Welcome back to the circus!

^I've always been more fond of Lady Nina, although Cinderella Search is good. Charting the Single, though, is a great live song (at least the version I have of it) and it should have been on MSH in my opinion.Wink

I've never given Cinderella Search a good listen. I usually stick to the first disk.

The only 2-disc version I have is for Script. The actual remastering is very good, but the bonus disc is none essential really.

The version of Grendel is not as good as the original ep version, the rough versions of Chelsea Monday and He Knows You Know are exactly that, rough. Neither are essential.
The two versions of Market Square Heroes are almost identical, and the other tracks - Three Boats Down From The Candy and Charting The Single are available, along with Cinderella Search, Tux On, Freaks, Lady Nina and the original (and best) version of Grendel, on the album B'sides Themselves.
An album I used to have, and may get again. (I wish that would be remastered!)

So no, I don't think the two disc versions, (if mine is anything to go by) are worth spending the extra money on.

@Cyggie: I thought Charting the Single was on MSH.

@Tony: Yes, Cinderella Search is on the second disc of Fugazi and is a great song (there best of that nature, IMO) but the rest of that second disc is demos of songs already on the album, and very boreing IMO.

If I do remember correctly it was on the Garden Party single.

I'll side with the majority.

The 2 disc is worth it for their debut and CAS. Its decent for MC (although I love the track Freaks), and pretty unspectactular for Fugazi (although CS is a gooooood song).

I juat now got the Fugazi remaster off of iTunes, my first Marillion album, so I have nothing to compare audio quality to. I should be getting the other Fish-era albums for X-mas

The two cd's version of Holidays in Eden is really a must have IMHO. Definitively worth a few extra euros !

I began my MARIILON collection with all these 2-CD versions.I bought Script's one on August,1st,2003, and it's still my FAVOURITEST ALBUM EVER up to date.I got Fugazi 2CD in October and Misplaced Childhood 2CD on Christmas.ASTONISHING!!! Really worth if you like what MARILLION does in Fish-era.

I couldn't find 2CD-version of Clutching(I think it's kinda "sign"...) and got the usual one.It was right for such a dissppointing album.Later I've got bonuses in MP3(as well as bonuses for Seasons End)...

I think 2CD-version is a must when buying Script...but not deadly essential for others...anyway think on your own
