What's your favourite progressive band with a name that begins with Q? I was trying to make a playlist for my mp3 player with one artist per letter of the alphabet. I'd like to state here and now that Queen probably aren't prog enough to count against my high standards.

let's hear it!

Quiet Sun.  Mainstream is an excellent record.

...also, I don't think I've heard any other prog bands that begin with Q Embarrassed which makes the choice quite easy.  Assuming Queen and Quicksilver Messenger Service don't count that is.

Apart from obvious Quiet Sun, Quella Vecchia Locanda and Quidam, there is new wonderful prog band from Argentina called Quaker and Japanese prog band called Quaser.

I also heard about Japanese band Qui, but not familiar with their output.

Queensryche. The only band I have that begins with Q and are progressive. Not to say they aren't good.

I've heard QVL, Quatermass and Queensryche but didn't enjoy any. Quiet Sun seems like it'd be my sort of thing, so thanks to everyone who suggested that, along with the more obscure stuff I'll no doubt read something about.

any more?

Not really progressive, but Queens of the Stone Age and Quicksilver Messenger Service are both great.

in general, or what I've heard from Queen? if you mean them then I've heard their first four plus various compilations. although they have a handful of creative songs I don't really rate them as being consistently progressive.

to the guy who simply posted "Queen. Debate over." I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.

What sort of thing do Quaterna Requiem play?

Thanks memowakeman.
Quaker clearly following footsteps of early King Crimson adding more of fusion elements to it.
Most of all they are reminding me one French band which I like a lot, namely - 4/3 De Trio. Also some resemblances to their countrymen Tanger and Chilean fusion band Tryo can be found in their music, but the band is no clone whatsoever. This is a brand new band and they are not in Archives yet probably just because not many people heard of them so far. I got to know about them by sheer coincidence when I was purchasing last Tanger's album Ciudad (which I like a lot as well).
I bought Quaker's only album "Autocritica" purely on impulse and did not regret one single cent I spent on it - I am delighted actually by this discovery. Highly recommended !
