So which of the two mega Who albums do you like?

I think Quadrophenia is Pete's masterwork.  It was engineered very well, it rocks in all dimensions.  Everything in it kicks ass from John's bass, Pete goes a little wild on the guitar compared to previous albums, Roger and Pete sing very well together and apart, Keith kills the drums, there are awesome synthesizers, and a brass/reed section that could blow apart a superdome.

I'm not criticising but I did exactly the same poll. I'll search it out.

Tommy sounds dated now, Quadrophenia is better.

Quad....just a much more approachable concept.  A deaf, dumb and blind pinball playing messaiha?  Bah!  Still, Tommy is also a great LP....Entwhistle on french horn!

This is a dupe thread, and I still prefer quad.  Both are great albums from one of my favorite bands.

Chris Stainton's piano is amazing at Quad tracks 5:15, Drowned, and  Dirty Jobs.  It was great Pete's idea to bring Chris Stainton to play piano on Quad, IMO.

If I say that Tommy is "SICK".
How do you take it?

Tommy was much better live than it was in the studio.  The studio version of Tommy puts me to sleep.

Quadrophenia kicks the studio Tommy's sorry little ass.  Live Tommy vs. studio Quad, though, I can't decide on.

Hands down Quadrophenia beats Tommy.  I was wondering why The Who wasn't listed in these archives.  Quad is certainly prog....but maybe not enough of their albums are to qualify them.  Quad sort of bridged my transition from mainstream music into true prog back in '75 (yeah, I'm old).

Quad and Who's Next, that's basically The Who for me.

parlance is ok. if somebody think that TOMMY is "sick" (as story, or that movie, not as perfect music , i guess), and like to say that, i dont care about it.

i like TOMMY so much. i like  TOMMY  the original album, the movie and the sondtrack, live perfomances too. I like that story, i find this is pretty wierd story but something awesome in The History of Rock.

I prefer Quad, but i think  that TOMMY (original album) was more important chapter in The Story of The Who.

My knowledge of Tommy is feeble, but still, Quad is one of the FEW albums I've heard that I'd call "perfect." In fact, the only other album that can match the mighty Quad is...well, Thick as a Brick, naturally.

^^   BTW,  Too Old To Rock'n' Roll, Too Young To Die is another one great Tull's concept album also, but very unrrated IMO.

Too Old... is one of Tulls weakest moments.
