I really prefer Red  over any other Crimson album. What do you think? Is anybody on my side?

Red for me, but it's really cruel to ask such question... It's like choosing my favourite child (if I had any)

Red for me. I awarded both Red and ITCHYCOCK 5 stars. I would have to say that for a debut album, ITCHYCOCK is incredible, i listen to both of these a lot.

Red for me too, but Lizard, Lark's and Discipline are all superior still.

Chalk and cheese.

They're both great!

Red, in my opinion, is the best KC has to offer. Simple music at its best. And by simple I mean, no violins, no devices, no sound effects. The musicianship isn't as percise as in Discipline, but it's a mix of the improv in Larks' and the precisian of their 80's albums. Red is a brilliant album.

ITCOTKC is still a monumental album, though. It's highly atmospheric.

ITCOCK is deceiptively simple.

Red is deceiptively strange.

I prefer Larks Tongues and Lizard

Now that you mention it, it really should have been one.

ITCOTKC for me.

I would take Red, or any of the Fripp/Wetton/Bruford/Cross discs, over ITCOTCK. I would even take Discipline over ITCOTCK in my fuzzy little world. (U.K. too!)

BUT, I would take ITCOTCK over any ELP release anyday.

Thanks, again, for the AH autograph.

Sometimes I prefer ITCOTCK, sometimes Red. Today I'm feeling kind of RED

Pretty different albums - why choose them in a head-to-head?

Red was Kurt Cobain's favourite album of all time apparently.  Probably because it didn't have Lake's whimsical faux-sensitive mumblings on it.

I feel that Fripp totally commands Red, dragging Wetton and Bruford along behind, and for that reason it surely must go down as his purest work.  Thus, it remains the most powerful KC album, although Larks Tongues comes a pretty close second.  COmparing those two would have been a tougher head-to-head!!

I would have refused to vote.

Red for me thank you. I love ITCOTCK, but other than "21st Century Schizoid Man", I think the songs are all a little too similar, dynamics-wise. I enjoy the adventurousness and avant-garde-ness of the MKII era.

RED
Followed by Larks Tongues

one of my first albums was in the court, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [anecdote removed] it would go on a list of fav's.

I can't remember Red, any one near Liphook in Hants[or is Surrey] care to go round to an ex's and get it back for me?

Itcock is good, but it seems close to a sort of adolesence, i think people rate it higher than it should be rated because of nostalgia history or hype. Red all the way

I would say Red, although i havn't listened to ITCOTCK in awhile.

I think ITCOTCK is more art rocky and symphonic than Red but Red is more rockable
its almost heavy metal.

Oh yeah, and starless is such a ridiculously good song.

Definately Red for me. While In The Court is an excellent debut album, it suffers from too quick production. What I mean by that is that the material didn't have a chance to evolve before recording, and if you listen to any later live versions of anything from the debut, you'll see what I mean. Red, however, is a sonic blast of an album; slick, glossy production, but still rough enough around the edges to bite you when you first listen to it. And that bite still grabs me more than anything on the debut.

How about GTR vs. ASIA?  I really can't say much, I own botha-dem.

Well, I only own and have heard the greatest hits album from Asia, and the GTR album plus a boot from the tour. But from the two, I would definately choose Asia. As much as I love Hackett and Howe, Asia has much stronger material(that is, at least the early Wetton years. I haven't ventured into their later works yet.)

Yeah, I'd side with Asia. At least Wetton didn't sing like Jim Garten was playing cricket with his twins.

...lately, I've been enjoying live versions of ConstruKction Of Light material a lot...

Everybody knows King Crimson is mot my cup of tea, but this two albums are an honorable exception, ITCOTKC as the only symphonic KC album has a special meaning for me.

Red is something different, more agressive with an excellent track like Another Red Nightmare (I really identify myself with the lyrics) and probably the best KC track of their history, Starless.

Very hard to select one, but I think I'll go with ITCOTCK.

If ITCOTCK had another great song instead of the 10 minutes of Moonchild-noodling, it might be able to compete. But no, Red wins.

AFter listening to most of what you sent me, I can see why you would think so outrageously.  You should really listen to some ELP just to get those dense ears of yours cleaned out!!

Oh and you're welcome!

The best are, without doubts:

In the court
in the wake
lark's tongue
starless

red is average, except the "red" piece

ITCOTKC - My favourite KC - it was the first Prog Lp I ever owned and loved at the tender age of 14. Sentimental reasons for choosing over Red.  My top KC's are: ITCOTKC; ITWOP; Red; Starless and Bible Black;  Larks Tongue in Aspic; Lizard and Islands.
