I haven't heard any album in 5.1 yet, but I'm planning on moving in with someone who happens to have that set up, so I will soon. I've done a bit of searching and found some albums available in 5.1 that could be good. Here they are: Ayreon - Actual Fantasy Stream of Passion - Embrace the Storm Opeth - Still Life Opeth - Ghost Reveries Opeth - Watershed Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream Porcupine Tree - In Absentia Porcupine Tree - Deadwing Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet / Nil Recurring Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Besides these, what other good albums are available in 5.1?  |

Surprised me too. The Moody Blues - I believe all the original 7 albums are in 5.1/SACD Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Sorry, that's all I can think of... and judging by your list they probably aren't your style anyways.  -------------

I'm not so familiar with either of the 2 artists yet but I'll check 'em out further eventually. If you mean they probably are too light for me- I like some light stuff such as IQ, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and King Crimson. So it's a possibility that I'll like 'em.

Well, they aren't just light... the music can sometimes get almost "fluffy"  It's that soft.Assuming you like ITCOTCK, you may like the Moody Blues solely due to the mellotron factor. But they are also poppy (extremely accessible IMO) and their Days Of Future Passed is recorded with an orchestra... just to let you know Elton John, especially that album, is just essentially high-quality 70s pop. I'm sure you have heard at least a few of his hits before. But on the plus side (for progsters), the track "Funeral For A Friend" is pretty proggy with the synths! I'd recommend that you listen to at least several samples of each of those artists before you go making any purchases. -------------

I'm currently listening to the 5.1 mix of Opeth's new album Watershed ... it's perfect. Honestly, I don't know how you could possibly improve that ... I usually download from artists that I'm not familiar with (don't worry, I buy albums after deciding that I like them, especially if it's a particular band that is in need of support).
You mean the special edition, right? I'm certainly getting that. I think Watershed is one of their best albums. I've listened to that album in stereo around 20 times already even though it hasn't even been released in the US yet. It will be released here on June 3rd.Where's the aforementioned list?  |

Queen's "A Night at the Opera" with its multi-vocal harmonies sounds extremely good in 5.1 (DVD-Audio). Other items I like are:
Yes "Fragile" and "Magnification" (both DVD-A);
ELP "Brain Salad surgery" (DVD-A);

The Flaming Lips' reissue of The Soft Bulletin. (5.1 is actually in the title). It comes with both a CD and DVD.
