What's your favourite short prog song?

By short, I mean (arbitrarily I admit) under 5 minutes in length.

And since the song's prog-ness is not defined by its length - what is it about the song that makes it prog?

For a Kansas fan, "under five minutes" means nothing.  I could list a dozen great ones.

But try this for short-

"The Spider," Steve Walsh's instrumental on Point of Know Return, which is under three minutes.

Well if we are going for short here, Five Per Cent For Nothing clocks in at a whopping 0:35.  Not my favorite song, but for short pretty good.  A nice alternative -- same album --is Long Distance Runaround, running at a more respectable 3:33.

^ Isn't that like, an album long song?

Anyway, I'll go with... Anyway by Genesis :P, this time, anyway (that's the third time I've said anyway, but anyway...), quite an underrated song of theirs.

There's so many but a few off the top of my head:

Captain Beyond - Dancing Madly Backwards (on a sea of air)
Uriah Heep - Love Machine
Ken Hensley - Cold Autumn Sunday
Floyd - The Gold, it's...
Yes - I'll go with Long Distance Runaround too
Man - Romaine
Caravan - Hoedown
Nektar - New Day Dawning
Neutrons - Live Your Life

Sorry no Genesis - don't really go for their shorter stuff.

"Long Distance Runaround" IS quite an excellent song, and not too long.

Nothing short for Genesis? As much as I like "Harld the Barrel," I'll go with "Horizon's," which I'm sure will be an original choice.

And how 'bout some tiny Tull finishers: "Grace" and "Cheerio," both under a minute, I'm pretty sure.

@Whis:

my favourite Tull one is "Wondrin' Aloud", I'm surprised you don't mention it.

Heh; I was going for SUPER short, but actually, "Wondrin" is a fantastic tune too. Sorta goes along with the acoustic stuff on Minstrel.

Under five minutes? There's thousands. (one) Two or maybe three minutes would be a little more challenging.

Agreed, way too many great ones to choose from.

Though Peaches En Regalia and Little Umbrellas by Zappa spring to mind, as does Dixie by Harmonium.

Under 5 is too hard, but under 3 is easy.
