In case any of you have missed this gem, then you have to check it out. It's a fantastic album and in my humble opinion, better than what Yes were turning out at the time.

I for one haven't missed it, and have even given it five stars in my reviewWink. We have the remastered edition that was released a couple of years ago, and the album is a frequent guest in our CD playerLOL.

Like it, too.  Even though he was only a Yessman on one album, Patrick Moraz's i (aka Story of i) is a similar gem, as is Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow. Big smile

Not even close to either Relayer or Going for the One, the two closest Yes albums I think.  Wink

Good point about Going For The One, but I've never got on with Relayer. I'm a a guitarist and a big yes fan but Steve Howe kind of spoils things for me on Relayer.

What don't you like about Howe's playing on Relayer?

Fish Out of Water is excellent, and a 5 stars piece from a bassist. Definitely better than any post-Relayer album.

I think it's more his tone than anything, but beyond Fragile he did over play on a lot of the albums. He solo's pretty much all over Going For The One too, but I do love that album.

Hmmm....interesting.  I've always loved his playing on all of those mid 70s albums.  One of my favorite guitarists, both acoustic and electric.

I prefer Fish Out Of Water to any other Yes-related piece of music I've heard.

Finally uploaded Squire & Moraz from LP to my PC.
O.K. ... wait, I'm checking to make sure I've got a secure and easy means of escape .... here goes ....
Fish out ff Water sounds like Sting (the singing is what got me fixed on that idea) attempting a prog album. Moraz - the Story of I - is a nice cirriculum vitae for a traveling keyboard whiz.
Both are decent works, but none show that extra spark that their "group" efforts (Yes for both, Moody Blues for Moraz) showed them to be a big part of. I.E. they help make the whole greater than the sum of the parts, but when apart on their own, the hole left by the others is too big for them to fill.

I don't know if you guys saw my post about my band Mr. So & So. But you really should check us out

www.myspace.com/mrsoandso

While the singer and I were at college, we were taught by such a cool lecturer. It was like the school of rock, I'd go home with copies of Fragile, Wish you were here and other big albums but also gems such as Fish out of water or the Hughes & Thrall album or even albums bands like Egg or Caravan. All these influences then it turn shaped our music.

Please give us listen :)

That one is a fantastic album, even if not prog by any stretch of the imagination. I am a major Glenn Hughes fan, and he's my favourite singer of all time.

Anyway, I'll be sure to check your band out... Cross my heart and hope to dieWinkSmile!

It is a fantastic album. After I mentioned the album it went straight on. 'Coast to Coast' is an amazing song with a fantastic solo :)

^ha cool, tell me what you think about them, when you have checked them.

2 of Trapeze albums, are MUSTS for Hughes fans: Medusa and You Are The Music(having Coast to Coast)

Also if you're not aware of, though I'm sure you are, that Deep Purple had Hughes in 3 of their albums, which I highly recomend you, if you haven't heard

Absolutely wonderful album, from the first to the last song. Melodies, harmonies, instrumentation, everything is fantastic. One of the best solo albums by a Yes member, if not the best.

Great keyboards by Moraz on the album by the way.

What always gets me is the overall atmosphere of the album.  It's so consistent from start to finish and serves as a fantastic example of why the rhythm section of Bruford/Squire was one of the best ever in rock.  A great album that has aged quite well.

It's definitely a StarStarStarStarStar album and a must-have for any Yes fan. It is better than any other solo album from a Yes member and it proves that Chris Squire's input in the band is essential. Therefore it deserves a place among masterpieces like The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge and Relayer.

Finally got around to listening to this. Awesome stuff. Better than Relayer (which is fairly overrated) in my opinion.

Lucky Seven is completely out of left field. Funky as hell and a massive surprise from someone like Squire. Great track.

Squire's vocals are also great. He sounds a lot like Anderson at times aswell, especially on Silently Falling, but of course that's no bad thing.

4 stars for me.

I'd put Olias and Moraz i ahead, but it is certainly one of those obscure gems worth getting.

I just ordered this album yesterday (the "deluxe" edition).  I've already heard a few songs so I know I won't be dissappointed. Smile

You won't be dissappointed, as many have said it's one of the best solo albums made by Yes members along with some Wakeman's work. There we can notice that he was an essential part of Yes sound.

BTW I sold my vynil of Olias years ago and haven't got it on cd, maybe i will enjoy it more if i listen it now. The vynil edition was really beautifull, is there a cd version well done?

I find it overall worthwhile, but I always skip "You By My Side" and get weary of Silently Falling's cacophanous passages, and Safe is never-ending (not in a good way). So we've got a very good EP left.
I agree with Slartibartfast that Moraz' Story of i is the superior offering from the '75-'76 solo-Yes period.

The CD I have has all the artwork but you will need a magnifying glass. LOL
Shame on you for for selling off your vinyl. AngryLOL

Yes, now i regret i sold/traded most of my vynils when cd came out. Now the closest you can have to the original vynils artwork are the minilp sleeves wich are quite expensive and as you say, they're so small that you'll need a magnifyng glass.

Great album. An equal to "i" in my opinion, and far better than the rather dull and twee Olias.
