Finnforest suggested that someone make a poll after my listening to The Bangles yesterday.  All of the above are non-prog female artists or bands with female singers from the 80's and 90's.  I am sure that I am probably forgetting many and there are probably many that I forgot on purpose.

I forgot to add Heart. Angry  Maybe I'll replace Wilson Phillips.  After all they are Wilsons.

There are many I like in your list, but I think The Pretenders stand head and shoulders above most of the contenders (except perhaps Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks). I saw them live twice, and they cooked! Chrissie is one of my favourite female vocalists of all time.

A special mention should also go to Patti Smith, who, besides her solo work, was also a long-time collaborator of my beloved Blue Oyster Cult.

From the list it's Alanis Morisette.

Other personal choices: Skunk Anansie, Texas, Garbage, Guano Apes, Natalie Imbruglia, late Roxette and many more.

But...no BJORK?

Sorry.  I'm not a Bjork fan and I didn't think of her.  Also, she's been batted around a bit as a potential PA artist.  And in case anyone wonders why I didn't include Kate Bush, since she is on PA, I considered her to be a prog artist.

One I rather liked in the 80s was Christina Amphlett of the Divynls.  Bjork could be another addition.

I'm going with "You Decide" for Laurie Anderson.

Ah, sorry Scott, didn't want to sound that the choices weren't good enough, just that I barely know those, and you might have skipped The Corrs.

If you're ever interested by them, their first album, Forgiven Not Forgotten, I think it's the name of their debut, is surely the best choice. Of course, you must expect Pop, but I find it quite interesting Pop, with violins and Irish influences.

Not a problem.  There is a good reason that the "You Decide" answer is there.  It is the most popular option in any PA poll.

Yep, I was involved in those Laurie Anderson discussions,  Lots of good choices here, anyway.  The Divynls had a big hit with "I Touch Myself" but I'd stopped listening to them before then.  Laurie Anderson had a  surprise hit with "O Superman".

You're starting to freak me out man.  Those would be my Top-4 of the ones listed as well, but I'm giving the Go-Gos the nod just because I truly admired their considerable ability to entertain with very little actual talent (except for Belinda Carlisle who has a great set of pipes).

Of those not listed, here are a few worthy considerations:

The Motels (Martha Davis)
Martha & the Muffins (Martha Johnson)
Concrete Blonde (Johnette Napolitano)
Pearl Harbour & the Explosions (Pearl E. Gates)

The first three actually had talent; the last one was a blast to see live.

This brought a smile to my face... I remember sitting in a movie theater when I first heard Skunk Anansie and I was very impatient for the movie to end so I could see who it was in the credits.. the track was "Selling Jesus" ..  and went out and bought the album the very next day..

Love Texas.. something about them and this surprised me because they are not very well known at all, something you may enjoy along the same lines is a band called Torrez they put out two albums but are probably a bit hard to find "An Evening Drag" and "Wild Horses"..

Absolutely love the Guano Apes .. I can't think of any other female fronted band that delivers more pure rock than the Guano Apes... Have to admit though I was very disappointed with Sandra Nasic's solo album..

I really enjoyed Natalie's "Left of the Middle" but not much after that..

And I love Garbage... Speaking of which they should be due for something new soon...

One of these days Dean you are going to have to provide me with a list of the female fronted bands you have...  Living in the UK and my fascination with  female singers from the UK I'm sure I'd find tons of new great bands and singers...

Of list my vote goes hands down to 4 Non Blondes.  I love Linda Perry and really wish she'd sing again instead of producing.  I have both her solo albums and last time I priced "After Hours" it was nearly hundred bucks.    Also on the list I also love Liz Phair.. Always loved her lyrics and more importantly her music Smile

But I vote other, cause I'm absolutely in love and can never pick any other than Curve.  If even one person has checked them out, then I'm happy...  and a very close second is Heather Nova, if you let her in, she'll never leave...

I decide to go with Tina Turner, just cos I discovered her
in the eighties (born 1981).I know she´s been singing for
lot of years before, but she´s still in great form being over 70
,if I´m not wrong.

From the list I would have choosen Babes in Toyland
as I knew them back in the nineties and liked it, not a lot,but
think they had badass attitude and made good punkrock.
