You know what I like? Random polls. Nothing captures the essence of online music discussion like trying to compare bands that have nothing in common. Because in order to vote, you must compare them, and then you must justify your comparison, both to yourself and to us, and reading the steps required to make this process appear logical pleases me because it allows me to gaze at the architecture of other people's thoughts without being intrusive like in a politics thread.

I am going with ASMZ because I have always found their acronym aesthetically pleasing. Perhaps it is the mirroring of the S and Z, so the SMZ is sort of a mini-palindrome, and I've always enjoyed palindromes. Unrelated, but when I'm on register at work, I always inform the customer when her total is a palindrome, and I always get a weird look after they look at it for a few seconds and realize I'm right. They don't understand that waiting for the ecstasy of a palindrome is the most interesting part of being on register. :(

GY!BE because the use of punctuate in an acronym is so amusing and unnecessary.

By the way, did you omit VDGG, FZ, and JT OP, or were they just an OS?

OP, having them and DT, PT, and TMV would make it too easy. ;-)

No problem.  Would you prefer some Wanted Man or Back For More instead?

You have it backwards, they were originally GYBE!, but switched to GY!BE for Yanqui UXO so their punctuation is in line with the obscure Japanese movie they're named after.

I always pronounce it Gibe in my head, but with an exclamation point, like this: "Gibe!!!"

Acronyms confuse me.  Confused Let's see if I've got these right:

GG - Good Golly!
PFM - Pretty Fine Music
EITS - Exceptional in Time Syndrome
BTBAM - Before They Bang Another Musician
SMM/ZMM - Umm, I can't print this on a public site
ASMZ - After Sometime More Zing
MO - This could mean More Oldfield or More Ozrics, not sure
SGM - Super Giant Musculature
UZ - UZi
AZ - Arizona
RTF - Righteous Truthful Foundation
MOTW - MOToWn (don't know why this would be on ProgArchives)
DMST - December March September Tuesday
SBB - Sounds Bad Brother
POS - Point Of Sale
SM - this is another I can't print on a public site
HATN - Hate Nothing
COL - Color Of Life
GIAA - Isn't this like the RIAA?
65DOS - I didn't think they even had that many versions
GY!BE - Good Year! Bye Everybody
TD - Touchdown!
HC - Hack 'n' Cough
KS - Kansas (I'm pretty sure about this one)
AMT - American Musical Theater

How'd I do?

Voted PFM because of beautfull melodies and use of violin as I play the violin myself. But it was difficult between SM and PFM because SM is the band I'm most into right now. Couldn't sort out most of the bands listed anyways. Very difficult poll

Is MO Mahavishnu Orchestra or Mike Oldfield?

I went for TD.

Good question Alex, I intended Mahavishnu, but I suppose you could vote for it as either. It doesn't really matter. ;-)

65daysofstatic are pretty awesome, you should listen to them. It's sort of like post-rock, but a lot faster and with IDM electronics.
