| Hi Folks! After visiting this site regularly for a couple of years, I finally decided to join as a member and enlighten you with my insights. I 'm too old for Rock 'n Roll and too young to die ( I bought "Dark Side Of The Moon" in the year of release) and, apart from that, I 'm musician from Berlin, Germany. When I have the time, whitch is not too often, I 'm afraid, I 'll be happy to share my knowledge about classic prog, musical details and german kraut (not the vegetable). On the other hand I 'd love to learn more about present prog, especially the symphomic, Zheul (ork for prog?), and Canterbury branch. Don 't panic, I 'm not going to write a review about Dark Side. |

| Very good band, in deed! Not really progressive, though. Goes more into the Toto corner, sounding very american. Top musicians and songs. "On the run" and "Key to the rhyme" are my favourites. Not knowing them, you can hardly believe it 's a german band. |

That's true, I have all their stuff on album and most of the cd's except the last cd. I love them and the singer is my fave vocalist along with Glenn Hughes. Alex Conti is a great guitarist and vastly underrated.Great musicians as you say, i'm glad you like them. Those two tracks you mentioned are probably my faves as well! No you are not. You have not asked me, yet! I am a Lake fan. They are from my hometown Hamburg, where I was born. Great band. I would call it 'westcoast' rock, in the style of Eagles, The Little River Band and Crowded House. If you like Lake, check out also the other artists from Hamburg: Elephant and Ian Cussick. |

Yes, Conti is born in Berlin, but he did a lot in the music scene of Hamburg. |

Yes, Ijon Tichy, I was about to post a comment on that... but I thought the non Germans on this site would not understand it. I love the series, too .For those, who do not know: it is a science fiction TV series inspired by a story from Stanislav Lem. In the form of humor it is a bit similar to Douglas Adams the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. |

| Yeah, great TV series, though my voyages are better and more completely descibed in my "Star Diaries". Highly recommended! Funny that so much prog fans also love SF and vice versa. Sure, both has much in common. Would be a nice new forum topic. Lot of prog is inspired by SF. Just now Stuart Hamm's great fusion album "Radio free Albemuth" comes to my mind, a Philip Dick hommage. Mr 4001 might know! |

Stuart "Stu" Hamm is an american bass player-guru especially known for his artistic tapping technique. He worked with Steve Vai, Frank Gambale and others, made several solo albums. Mostly fusion stuff, but that album I menchant, his first , featuring Allan Holdsworth a.o., is worth to check out. As for Philip Dick 's Novels. |

Hi, yes I know who Stu Hamm is, I don't have anything by him, but i've seen a lot of him playing on Youtube, he's a very good player although he uses tapping a lot which is a technique I actually don't like much. It's Philip Dick who I havn't heard of. ------------- Tony C. |

Ijon Tichy is also on tube. But it is in german, and I mean, you really have to be good in german to understand it. Because Ijon Tichy, the main character, is supposed to be a russian cosmonaut, so he speaks german with a false russian accent. The name is a 'speaking name': Ijon is similar to ion and 'tichy' in russian means 'silent'. Though he speaks all the time. He flies in a space ship that looks like a living room. Let me see now......Hellmut Hattler? mmmm' oh, yes! the blonde haired guy with spectacles? Only what i've watched on Youtube. He is a good player. He had a natural Ricky in the very early 70's which i'm sure was a 4000 bass with an added humbucker at the neck, Martin Turner from Wishbone Ash has one of those (since been made to look like a 4001). Hellmut later used a 4001 which had an added pick up in the middle, very unusual ! I think he uses something that resembles a Precision now in white that has two pick ups. How do you describe their music? from what I recall it sounded a little bit like Focus only with psychedelic/jazz influences? I havn't heard them for a long time, i'll look them up on Youtube when I have the time, not now though as just got back from playing a gig myself, it's 2.30am and i'm very tired! PS: I disaprove of modding Ricky basses!! that's a sin! ------------- Tony C. |
