Today, after playing Kate Bush's Aerial album I was putting the CD back into the digipak case, taking care to align the discs with the background image print as always, I stopped to wonder if this habit was peculiar to me, or whether other people also do this (not just with Aerial and Digipaks, but any CD and any case style).

If you don't know what I mean, look at this:

...the pictures on the discs do not line-up with the background, and that would annoy the crap out of me.

Yes, if it lines up with the artwork OR if there's writing on it.

I also line them up 'properly' when I put them into my CD wallet.  When friends look through my CDs, if they turn the pack upside-down, some of the Cd's fall out and having them aligned stops that from happening.

Or I'm just trying to hammer some order into my chaotic world.  Either one works.

No, and what's more, I hardly bother putting the CD back into its own case.  I'm lucky to find anything.

Therefore, my wife hates me.

Gah! I can't cope with not putting CDs away - I think it's a throw-back to LP days when it was an absolute sin to leave unprotected vinyl lying around - but even CDs can get scratched. However, much worse is living with someone who puts the CDs back into the wrong cases.

I always put my LPs away, but I must admit I have got into bad habits with CDs...they are strewn everywhere. Its quite frustraing when you find a CD but the case is empty.

My CDs are "archived" - they don't get daily use.

I used to be OCD about something like this, but these days I can't be bothered.

Yes. I'm quite neurotic really.

Even if it doesn't line up with the backing pick or have words I still like to put the CD in the case right ways up...assuming you can tell of course.

It's not OCD by the way ... it would be if you check the CDs multiple times, or go through your collection in the middle of the night, checking whether they're properly aligned.

I used to do that for some CDs, but not regularly. Of course in this day and age tidying the mp3 tags has become the main task related to music collections - or, for those of us who have iPads or smartphones with high resolution displays, to add high resolution cover art to the files.LOL

I used to sometimes, but now I don't even bother to keep to keep them sorted in chronological order grouped by artist but now just grouped by artist is sufficient.

I confess, I am also sad enough to line up my Aerial CDs with the case. I also do this with other similar ones and I like my CDs to be the right way up. I must seek help.

No never.I also have my CD's so badly ordered that I often spend 10 minutes or more trying to find the one that I want to listen to. Sometimes I just give up and watch TV insteadOuch

When I have time to waste, I will line it up, but I must say that it doesn't matter tio me if it isn't...

Mrs. someone_else and our daughter share your habit of randomly picking an empty CD case and putting the CD in it. I don't hate them for that, but I find it rather annoying. When I have an hour to spend freely, I try to rearrange them, if I'm lucky enough to find the original cases. I am glad that they don't use the CD player too often, the more because they're not into prog. Disapprove

I'm afraid my obsessive compulsive behavior is very clear on this point:
- having all my CDs neatly in their cases,
- and ordered by artist alphabet/year of release,
- and carefully aligned with the other CDs in the row,
- and of course, in the appropriate genre drawer
is a MUST Geek

I definitely always try and put the CD in such that the top is at the top of the case and the bottom is at the bottom of the case, using the art or text to determine how that should be.

And I definitely never leave a CD anywhere other than in the tray or in the case. Case always sits close to tray when a CD is in use, so this is no problem.

Yes, but not like yours. I do it so that the writing, the letters appear perfectly straight...

I used to have all my CDs in order but lately it's random stacks. That's why digital copies seem to save the day for me, more organization. LOL

And yes, they have to be put the right way in the case. Stern Smile

If I have the time and have a box like Aerial: always.

More important for me is to put the cd back in the case or a cd wallet. I have a strong dislike for cd's that are not well protected, with the danger of happy feet tapdancing on top of them.
