Hi everybody I'm new in here, beautiful website, it is a source for all my prog questions and my doubts about progressive music.

Hoping that this question has never been made, which is in your opinion the best

                                         PROGRESSIVE LOVE SONG

                                                    ever made?

I go for "750.000 anni fa...l'amore?"  by Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso from "Darwin"

I know the lyrics are in italian, but the song is about a prehistoric man, who likes a woman, and contemplates her beauty. He would like to express his feelings to her, but his "mind" isn't able to formulate sentences, so he can only watch the woman in desperation, hidden in the shadow....

What's your choice?

Bye

Does Queen count as progressive????

If so.
You take my breath away

Look into my eyes and you’ll see I’m the only one
You’ve captured my love stolen my heart
Changed my life
Every time you make a move you destroy my mind
And the way you touch
I lose control and shiver deep inside
You take my breath away

You can reduce me to tears with a single sigh
Ev’ry breath that you take
Any sound that you make is a whisper in my ear
I could give up all my life for just one kiss
I would surely die if you dismiss me from your love
You take my breath away

So please don’t go
Don’t leave me here all by myself
I get ever so lonely from time to time
I will find you anywhere you go
I’ll be right behind you
Right until the ends of the earth
I’ll get no sleep until I find you
To tell you that you just take my breath away

I will find you anywhere you go
Right until the ends of the earth
I’ll get no sleep until I find you
To tell you when I’ve found you
I love you

really, tears in my eyes, just from reading this lines

Explain Synthy, I agree on the created sentiment through the song, bu i don't see it in the lyrics

Great Song nonetheless

A man conceived a moment's answers to the dream.
Staying the flowers daily, sensing all the themes.
As a foundation left to create the spiral aim,
A movement regained and regarded both the same,
All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.
Changed only for a sight of sound, the space agreed.
Between the picture of time behind the face of need,
Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid,
Emotion revealed as the ocean maid,
All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.
Oh.

Coins and crosses

   Turn round tailor, assaulting

Never know their fruitless worth;

all the mornings of the interest shown,

presenting one another to the cord,
Cords are broken,
   All left dying, rediscovered

Of the door that turned round,
Locked inside the mother earth.
To close the cover, all the

interest shown,
They won't hide, hold, they won't tell you,
To turn one another, to the

sign at the time float your climb.
Watching the world, watching all of the world,
Watching us go by.

And you and I climb over the sea to the valley,
And you and I reached out for reasons to call.

II. Eclipse
Anderson/Bruford/Squire

Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid,
Emotion revealed as the ocean maid,
As a movement regained and regarded both the same,
All complete in the side of seeds of life with you.

III. The Preacher the Teacher
Anderson/Bruford/Howe/Squire

Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time;
Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme.
There'll be no mutant enemy we shall certify;
Political ends, as sad remains, will die.
Reach out as forward tastes begin to enter you.
Ooh, ooh.

I listened hard but could not see
Life tempo change out and inside me.
The preacher trained in all to lose his name;
The teacher travels, asking to be shown the same.
In the end, we'll agree, we'll accept, we'll immortalize
That the truth of the man maturing in his eyes,
All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.

Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid,
As a moment regained and regarded both the same,
Emotion revealed as the ocean maid,
A clearer future, morning, evening, nights with you.

IV. Apocalypse
Anderson/Bruford/Howe/Squire

And you and I climb, crossing the shapes of the morning.
And you and I reach over the sun for the river.
And you and I climb, clearer, towards the movement.
And you and I called over valleys of endless seas.

Although there are many, I'd have to go with Genesis' "Afterglow."  The build-up toward the end is so emotional, so powerful, that it sends shivers up my spine every time I hear it...

Peace.

Porcupine Tree - Fadeaway...  NOT the John Wesley version.

I sat in the room with a view The girl in the photograph knew
Can't you see? Why is she laughing at me?

I stumbled through the dark unaware The face in the hall isn't there
Tomorrow has gone Where do the voices come from?

Watching the leaves as they blew Lost in the room with a view
Climb the walls You did not know me at all

I fell through a hole in the floor The audience cried out for more
Fadeaway It's just another day

So... Does that mean I don't have to explain anything?

Good.  Because I always have trouble with Jon's lyrics.  The bits I can decipher are beautiful, but during some bits of the song, I just trust that Jon actually is trying to make a point.

I love the music though!

still elements naturally, but I never regarded it a love song, so this is a new way to look at the lyrics, makes sense during some parts, never before have I looked at it from this perspective

Time heals - Peter Hammil from the album Over. A song about one loving his friend's girl friend but understanding she will never leave his friend so all he can do is to hope that ... time heals.

mmhhh... how about The Musical Box? it's twisted and wicked,
especially if you read Gabriel's accompanying story, yet it's a love
song
"You stand there with your fixed expression
Casting doubts on all I have to say
Why don't you touch me, touch me
Touch me
Now now now now NOW!"

"You" from Tony Banks, from the album A Curious Feeling.

Most funny love song: "You yes yes yes you" from The Residents. The whole song goes like: "Youououou yes yes yes yes yes yes yes youououou": the essence of a love song

"Been Alone So Long" by Peter Hammill, though it is not exactly a love song. It is a song about someone who doesn't know how to find any. If that doesn't count, then "This Side of the Looking Glass", also by Peter Hammill.

Acquaintance by Enchant.

I did not suspect - that we would not connect - and end up strangers

I could dance with you all night - make love by candlelight
we could talk and talk but it's all in spite cause you'll never be my friend
I could walk with you through the rain - we could share each other's pain
We could do all this but it's all in vain cause you'll never be my friend

Dream Theater - "Through her Eyes"

She never really had a chance
On that fateful moonlit night
Sacrificed without a fight
A victim of her circumstance

Now that I’ve become aware
And I’ve exposed this tragedy
A sadness grows inside of me
It all seems so unfair

I’m learning all about my life
By looking through her eyes

Just beyond the churchyard gates
Where the grass is overgrown
I saw the writing on her stone
I felt like I would suffocate

Inloving memory of our child
So innocent, eyes open wide
I felt so empty as I cried
Like part of me had died

I’m learning all about my life
By looking through her eyes

And as her image
Wandered through my head
I wept just like a baby
As I lay awake in bed

And I know what it’s like
To lose someone you love
And this felt just the same

She wasn’t given any choice
Desperation stole her voice
I’ve been given so much more in life
I’ve got a son, I’ve got a wife

I had to suffer one last time
To grieve for her and say goodbye
Relive the anguish of my past
To find out who I was at last

The door has opened wide
I’m turning with the tide
Looking through her eyes

I don't know this one but the best instrumental love song would be "After the ordeal" (Genesis, Selling England by the pound) to me !
"And you and I" is also my favourite with lyrics.

i would agree with Banco - 750.000 Anni...
tough since now i could never understand the lyrics - thank you !

also Tempano - Anhelos
the cd-version countains a translation and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful. but this song is probably not real prog - it's just lightens the mood between all the complex structured songs on Atabal-Yemal.

Nektar - Always:

Making the move
No time to prophecise
The secret is out
It's not right
We're breathless and out of time
The choice is ours
To stay or go for always
Always

In your eyes I will look
To see where it all began
Was it you who really helped
The life of a frightened child?
Now I could go
But could you stay, always?
I could go
But could you stay, for always?
Always

Ever
Why must this be forever?
Tell me now
Ever
That sounds so long and so forever
Never
All that I hear is never
Tell me now
If there's a heaven
Why can't it be there inside you?

(The secret is out
Time's running short
To stay or to go
The choice is still yours
All that I hear
Is what could have been
It's now up to you
To change how you feel)

It didn't matter anyway
We'll meet again some other day
Till then keep well
You'll be in my dreams
Goodnight, goodbye, bye for now...

The time has come to leave you
Please don't feel alone
For now that we've met
There'll be a way to reach you and say
"Never mind..."

It didn't matter anyway
We'll meet again some other day
Till then keep well
You'll be in my dreams
Goodnight, goodbye, bye for now...

They closed their set with this when I went to see them a few months back with my girlfriend. We live a fair distance apart and had to part ways the following day... I'm sure I don't need to explain how this song made us feel...

mmm Lady Fantasy "Camel"

Listen very carefully, my words are about to unfold
Concerning a lady I've seen but I never could hold
I can see by your smile,
Take a long while,
The words that come through,
I see that they're true,
For she reminds me of you.

Don't misunderstand me, it's not always easy to say
The words in your head and your heart that you just can't explain
I can see clearly,
A face in the sky,
Moon's in your eye,
You're passing me by.
Tell me the reason why.

I can see clearly,
A face in the sky,
Moon's in your eye,
You're passing me by.

Saw you riding on a moon cloud,
Saw you walking on a whirlpool,
From the corner of my eye,
I saw you.

Saw you sitting on a sunbeam,
In the middle of my daydream,
Oh my Lady Fantasy,
I love you.
