... I happen to be a fan of IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) as exemplified by
Orbital. Has anyone here listened to In Sides, their seminal album? Or The
Box, their 27-minute single from that album? Reviewers criticised it for
being too progressive.

Is it?

Nice track, but came after their progressive period (1995-1999).

Well, I'll just sit and watch the tumbleweeds roll by.

In Sides.
Great album. Haven't heard their other albums though.

You're not alone here; I'm very much into IDM - I haven't heard the Orbital album you mention, but I do know 'Snivilisation'.

Personally, I'm more likely to listen to some of the Psy-Trance coming out these days, plus a great deal of the good chillout sounds being produced by the likes of Harold Budd, Peter Merneger, Hoopy Frood et al.

I have a couple of Orbital's early albums - one has a green cover and the other is brown and both have the same title. The brown album contains Halcyon, a superb piece with some captivating wordless female vocals, and the green album has a stunning track called Belfast which is beautiful and impossible to dance to. I also had a copy of Snivilisation, but I loaned it to somebody (along with FSOL's Life Forms) and never saw it again . I'm surprised that more fans of Tangerine Dream and similar acts aren't into IDM.

If you like that one, you should love ACID PANTS

Haven't actually heard this one though.
