Sorry to mess up your process, but one list of 10 songs was just too limiting. So here are my "ten" songs from the "two" eras of prog music.
“Classic” 1967-1976(-1988)
1. Supper’s Ready—Genesis
2. Can You Hear Me?—Renaissance
3. Awaken—Yes
4. Gates of Delirium—Yes
5. Answers? Questions! Questions? Answers!—Focus
6. The Fall of the House of Usher—Alan Parsons Project
7. As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls—Pat Metheny
& Lyle Mays

I'd put the whole of Frances The Mute on here if I hadn't limited myself to one per album. It just has something that very few other albums have, but I just can't put my finger on it. Anyway - it's a top 2 for me, might give the top spot to Tick Tock.....

Franco Battiato - Sequenze e Frequenze Art Zoyd - Musique Pour l'Odyssée Sotos - Malstrom (yes, I'm aware it's broken up into 7 parts on the album, but it's all one piece when it gets right down to it).
Originally I was going to stick solely to "songs" of an epic length, but then I realized I like so many more epic-length instrumentals, so I included some of those as well. Also, I stuck to one piece per group, otherwise I would have h ad more of some artists (specifically Can and Zappa, I'd say).

Definitely...I tried to include bands/epics on mine which have been past favorites but now aren't (for example, I'm no longer the 100% crazed Magma fan I once was, though I still quite enjoy their music). If I was absolutely forced to make an all-time top 10 list, some of these would make it, some would probably be cut...who knows, really?

1. Xanadu - Rush (Unbelievable technique and ambience about this song, not to mention amazing lyrical content on top of flashing and brilliant instruments)
2. The Revealing Science of God - Yes (The album may be inconsistent, but its an amazing song)
3. Amboss - Ash Ra Tempel (Not in the sense of a normal epic, but psychedelic acid jamming could never be any better)
4. Assault and Battery/The Golden Void - Hawkwind (What a turely hypnotizing and other-wordly song by none other than the masters of the outer universe)
5. Bel Air - Can (An oriential jam that has true improv value and amazing rhythms and grooves)
6. Plague of the Light House Keeper - Van Der Graaf Generator (An extremely emotional and touching movement and piece of artwork by all means)
7.July Morning - Uriah Heep (Though not as percise as some of the above mentioned songs, its very well written and has incredibly well thought out structure)
8. The Apocolypse - Eloy (An inspirtational song that has an amazing groove to it)
9. Remember the Future (Both Parts) - Nektar (An amazing movement of emotion, technical ability and harmonies)
10. Echoes - Pink Floyd (Beautiful vocals accompanied by impedeing jams that never end)
In no particular order..:)

Starless is the epic to end all epics, all without being the length of your average epic. That's the epicness of King Crimson for you. I've used the word epic too much and now it sounds odd.
