Being a rhythmic gymnast myself, I do really get a kick out of the drums from these 3 tracks. Different styles no doubt, even if they all at some point brush up against fusion. This is a poll about which of these different drum parts you like the most - not which band/drummer you prefer, or what track is the "best". I´ve only included 3 options, and that is not to say that these are the absolute top contenders, but just that I´ve done some polls before, and if people have to listen to more than 3 or 4 vids to come to any sort of conclusion, - then they´ll probably not partake, or maybe just vote for something because they kind of know the band - just through another release... These are however some tracks that I really dig at the moment, so there is some sense to the madness. This will be interesting! My fave drummer is probably Area drummer Capiozzo here, but there´s something to the other pieces that really speaks to me as well. From what I've noticed, Area gets the most attention of these bands in the forums, followed by Le Orme, then Goblin. At least Area has a vocal fanbase here. When I arrived at the forums, I expect that Le Orme got much more attention. I've had all of these albums, but haven't listen to the non-Area ones for a long time, and I play the earlier Area albums more. It's great to have the youtube vids to really listen to the performances, and I will vote when I've had the chance to properly listen. Capiozzo is a terific drummer, though sometimes I find him a little too heavy handed. Course I love Area and his drumming is part of what makes that band great. ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. Today I've listened to Arbeit twice.... Area probably are less known overall. I knew Goblin (first through the Argento sounstracks) and Le Orme before Area, but Area has quite a few fans who are active forum members. When I bumped a years old Arena vs. Area thread, Arena had far more votes, but after bumping it Area overtook by a considerable margin. Based on performance, I have to go with Capiozzo and Area on this one, although I like Le Orme better on this song and as a whole. I actually like Marangalo's work with both Flea and Etna a lot better than with Goblin. Goblin just seems to suck the virtuosity out of its members, as they sacrifice for the overall sound. Just look at bassist Fabio Pignatelli, whose performance on the Cherry Five album is one of the best I've ever heard, but he never even comes close to that kind of performance in Goblin. Big fan as I am I voted for Giulio Capiozzo without really reading or listen to the tracks first. Sorry. Love Michi Dei Rossi's drumming too. I'm always surprised how inventive and creative the percussion is on a poppy prog act such as Le Orme. |

Thanks for all the responses to this poll. Like always I´m more into the talk that these polls generate. I haven´t visited the forums the past couple of days, because I was run over, whilst cycling on my bike on Friday, and cracked a rib along with my glasses... Listening to Le Orme right now, and Dei Rossi´s work is so wonderfully understated and skewed compared to the other drummers featured here. Powerful and very in tune with what´s happening around him, whereas a guy like Capiozzo in himself was a lead "voice/instrument" in Area. I don´t know if that makes any sort of sense outside my head though...
