I've only chosen bands that were inducted into the Rock Opposition movement and released albums in the 90s for the RIO festivals, which is why one doesn't find albums by band names that are often classified now as RIO such as 5UUs, Thinking Plague, Miriodor, and Guapo, as well as various others that played in "reunion" RIO fests. * I'm very tempted to not include the Art Zoyd/ J.A. Deane/ J. Greinke album because it's not all Art Zoyd, rather Art Zoyd appears on it, and a track off it such as "Mariée à la nuit" was composed by Thierry Zaboitzeff in 1984, but will include the album since it is listed in PA as a proper Art Zoyd studio album, and at other places, I presume. If I missed an appropriate one somehow, please mention it, and feel free to mention favourites from that decade that are associated with RIO that didn't make my criteria for the poll itself. I have very little knowledge of Art Zoyd, so my vote shouldn't really count here -- but I really love Present "Certitudes" and felt compelled to proclaim it my favorite anyway. I got to see them perform it live too, which is a plus.

Hmm, I'm waiting a bit to throw my vote. Not that it matters much, but I want to listen to some of these albums. Whilst I don't have the Samla one, Haxan and the Art Zoyd that isn't an Art Zoyd - what I remember the most about the albums on offer, is just how much I used to love Certitude. As I said, I'm giving these a spin, before I come back. I have been deeply immersed in Krautrock and electronics for a while now, so this is a welcome change in my listening diet. Oh - and I really need to get my hands on Haxan. I've only heard good things about it. Should be pretty dark and brooding if my memory serves me well - and if the people who described it as such are right that is. ------------- “The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. Certitudes is an excellent album, I think. I like all of these albums, but that would be my third choice, methinks. I am an Art Zoyd nut and Haxan and Faust are two of the six AZ albums I return to the most And, a comment to people generally who may read this, no worries about voting in such polls by me without having heard many of the options. I don't expect may to know most of these albums -- most at PA wouldn't know any of them. Happy to see people vote if they see something they like, or even just based on a track they heard, or on the cover.... It's nice to see some votes.
I think you'd be able to appreciate the electronic, and moody qualities of Haxan. Faust is really great too, and more accessible I would think, on the whole. By the way, there are no reviews of Haxan at PA, unless things have changed, and I tried to write a review of it some time ago. I got through the opening background of the album, talking about the silent film Haxan, and then started to describe the music and points of reference, and utterly failed to express what I wanted to say, and was just so lame in every way. I spent two hours trying to write a review, and just deleted everything I wrote. |

Too bad about that review Greg. Now I am not deliberately trying to be a brown nose type of dude, but I rather appreciate your thoughts on music, and I'll bet that your review was much better than what you thought. Lord knows my reviews always come out looking completely different, than what I originally set out to write.-And that is if I have a plan with it in the first place, which is very rare. You obviously had something to say about it. Anyway, if you ever find the time and inspiration, then I would be very interested in reading a review....
I have actually had Haxan on my to get list for a long time now, so maybe I should just get it. Oddly enough I've never cared for Certitudes as much as the other Present cds. Not to say its bad of course, just not as enjoyable to my ears. Haven't heard all of these but my favorite of the ones I have is Faust by Art Zoyd. I really like those albums myself, especially Clivages, which is actually one of my favourite Univers Zero albums -- my favourite being the debut, but I decided just to list albums from the 90s. I've been thinking about doing the other decades anon (like to do at least one of them presently) |

Those albums are not even close to being 90's album... Actually they're much closer to being 10's album than 90's
 And Barbaro is not exactly wat I'd call a pure studio album either
I voted for Hard Quest, despite it not being UZ's best (or even top 5)

I just listened to Faust this morning and I am voting for it. Damn that was a good listen! I don't know - sometimes there is just that one perfect moment for any given piece of music, and everything just flows. Such a moment was this morning with Faust - and much to my surprise I had some delightful company, as my cat called Speedy sat in for the duration - looking truly dedicated to the listening experience whilst purring like a shaver. ------------- “The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. | Faust is a great album. I actually had a feeling that you'd prefer it to Haxan -- I love both albums about equally and both have been particular favourites at different times. It's ki d of interesting that a few of my favouritest albums in PA are titled Faust (the Zoyd, one being Wakhevitch's Docteur Faust and one being the self-titled by Faust) |

I have yet to receive Haxan in the mail, but my listening experience the other day made me quite comfortable about choosing Faust.
