Usually running it together as one word, Iamamiwhoami is one is one Jonna Lee, a Swedish singer and producer who has just released her debut album Kin, which is probably my favourite album of the year so far, certainly one of the best produced things I've heard in quite some time.

The real shock is that it is pop. Yes it's arty, mysterious pop, but things like Good Worker and Idle Talk are clearly pop songs, but they're just so pure and well expressed that even an awful old cynic like me is easily converted. There are the usual flavours of Bjork and Kate Bush but also a bit of Kylie Minogue. But Lee isn't just another generic "I've listened to Kate Bush I have" oddball female singer. The construction of her audio is so careful and detailed it's really quite amazing. The album is very varied, with stuff you could dance to, and haunting beautiful soundscape moments. It manages to be catchy, getting you on the first listen, but also reveals more and more little nuances with every listen.

You may also be interested to know that she has filmed a video for all nine songs and that the nine videos run together to tell a "story", though it's predictably enigmatic/strange as to what exactly this story is.

hey, i heard this song on WRAS by this group last week— i attend GSU, and i enjoy the knife and kate bush, but my favourite band is genesis, which explains why i have an account here. i just googled the group and this thread came up. if it's being mentioned on here, there must really be something to it! going to buy the LP now, i guess!

I like iamamiwhoami, though I can't help but be reminded of artists like Bjork or Fever Ray.
