I've been playing these all weekend and have decided it's between 666 and Lucifer Rising. And considering i was raised in a strict Christian home this makes no sense.LOL Steig Aus is third place for me, i love that album.

That's a good way to put it. It's almost like an irreverent or humerous way of looking at the apocalpse. Some have compared in that way to Jesus Christ Superstar. It's one of my favourite double albums too.

Tough, tough choice.  I'll probably go with my gut, but I'm going to ponder more.

Let's see... the leading horse is white.... the second horse is red....

I love Aegian Sea myself, and when Irene Papas goes Meg Ryan on our ass with a hefty orgasmBig smile

Sadly, I am shutout once again.  Even the Tigers anemic offense had more oomph than me on this poll.  I would suspect that every prog fan probably should have at least heard the Aphrodite's Child and Eloy album, but I can't say that I have. Embarrassed

....but really, this was not the hardest choice for me seeing as Lucifer Rising is here. I love that album. Makes one ponder what truly equates evil, when a man is able to pull music like this off - and still sit incarcerated somewhere because he once killed a drug-dealer...
The music however is gorgeous and far from evil imo. It's somewhere between Grobschnitt's Solar Music, Floyd's Embryo and Free Electric Sound from Gila. -And I happen to adore all of the above...

My choice as well. Funny but i thought 666 would be my choice but listening to Lucifer Rising yesterday afternoon sealed the deal. Love the trumpet in that one too. Both though are very special recordings.

Agree wholeheartedly with both of those observationsSmile
I have the special edition with a whole second cd of trippy long tracks running around 25 minutes a pop. Love those as well.

I've decided to vote for Can Delay 1968.  I think it's actually a better album than Monster Movie, even though it's only outtakes.  But as we've seen time and time again though, Can's outtakes can be pretty amazing things.  I listen to Delay 68 a lot, so that figured heavily into my decision.  I'm probably more impressed with 666 as a really interesting idea/album, but I can't say I listen to it nearly as much as Can.  As for Embryo (another favorite band), they came close to getting my vote too.

I've never heard of this Lucifer Rising album, but it looks like it's worth checking out.

666 is a pretty cool album and it's definitely worth tracking down.
That's not exactly my fav Eloy album but it's rated highly on this site.

I love the Malcom Moody era of CAN . Having said that i think Tago Mago is still my fav. I originally gave Delay 5 stars but eventually put it back to 4 stars but man i have a lot of respect for that one. I would probably go Tago Mago, Monster Movie, Delay and Soundtracks as my top four CAN studio albums.

I didn't think of The Green Journey as Die Grüne Reise and because of that I voted for Lucifer Rising (which also is a masterpiece and so is Edge of Time, Stieg Aus & 666).

`Dom - Edge Of Time' gets my vote amongst a stack of great albums!

I only discovered this one recently, and it's a beautifully spacey combination of early Floyd, perhaps the first Nektar album, and even a more cosmic version of the Vangelis `Dragon' album. Love the overwhelming psychedelic organs! An album lost in deep space!

Highly recommended!

Hey, HolyMoly, I totally agree - pity about the rather rubbish cover it has, though! Even a cliched outer-space/astronomy picture would have been better!

But it's become quite a favourite of mine in a very short amount of time!

Damn that `Embryo - Steig Aus' album came a close second in this poll for me, though!

I just listened to that Embryo album at work, and the bass playing is a knockout, especially on that first track! I detected a bit of a Santana vibe on that one too, without the all dominating electric guitar of that band!

Doug! No, not heard that one! I've only got `Steig Aus' and `Rocksession' (I think that's what it's called off the top of my head), and I love them both! Perhaps I should check out `We Keep On' next?! I assume all their albums are instrumental?

My friend, We Keep On is essential! There is a strong jazz rock vibe on that one that is totally awesome. I have not heard all of their recordings, but WKO has some vocals.

Good to see Eskaton get a deserved vote. That Etron Fou Leloublan's album is my favourite from them. Probably the most accessible and produced by Fred Frith and he adds guitar and violin too. I'm pretty sure it was Frith's "Speechless" album that Etron Fou Leloublans plays on.

Big +1 on this rec.  We Keep On is awesome.

One I don't hear mentioned a lot, but it's my favorite by Embryo, is "Embryo's Reise", from the late 70s.  A real hot, diverse double album.

Yeah, EFL plays on side one of Speechless, that's my favorite side of Fred's music I've heard.  I quite like the EFL album in your poll too.  Real unusual band.

How on earth did Eloy run away with this?

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to love in their music, also on this particular release, but yeah.........really? I just find it somewhat baffling, especially seeing as there's a fair few albums on here that most likely would appeal to fans of Eloy - and to me personally, they're just so much better. Lucifer Rising, Edge of Time, 666 as well as Die Grüne Reise - all of them retaining a similar psychedelic feel combined with melody and strong song-writing.

I have all of these albums except for Eloy's.  I just never got that into Eloy (and I guess Iooked to the lesser-known in the past).  My choice is Lucifer Rising, which is a stand-out album, and interesting conversation piece, followed by Die Grune Reise, Edge Of Time and Steig Aus.

A number of years ago my vote definitely would have been for Ardeur (for a time I even liked it more than 4 Visions), but I'm mostly into somewhat different avenues these days.

Lucifer Rising is one of my alltime favourite chillout albums. The way the ending comes on like a full on psychedelic catharsis gets me every time. Spending all that time up to it - getting fed melody lines and hooks, little pieces of the coming finale, - and then it finally erupting with guitars and trumpet ablazing - to me is just pure genius.
Yeah, I love that album.

It's my least favourite from the list. I prefer their early stuff like Inside and Floating. I actually moved those two up in these polls so that Dawn and Ocean will be in the tougher final two polls. I think what it boils down to is that Eloy is more well known by prog fans because of them being labelled as the German Pink Floyd.

I recall it having some buzz about the forums.  It is a terrific record, and is one of my favourite albums in PA currently.

Some fans of earlier Pink Floyd should dig this track:

Funny you should say that.  I just bought the album on mp3 and I'm giving it my first listen now.  Only 6 bucks on Amazon, not a bad deal.  The physical CD/LP appears to be out of print at the moment and used copies are very expensive.

Interesting how that works isn't it ? As soon as a cd is out of print you see the high priced used ones go up for sale. Can't blame them of course it's all about supply and demand. I'm glad you got it though on MP3.Clap Good deal too.
