I listened to this a couple of days ago and it didn't really do much for me, although I was happy that it at least sounded like them. Gives me hope for the rest of the album.

It doesn't really sound like Soundgarden to me, but I can't place what it sounds like. Maybe Alice In Chains. Also reminded me a bit of Robert Plant and a bit of Sammy Hagar.

Listened to it again and I figured out who he reminds me of. The singing sounds like David Coverdale.

That's a good thing.
Don't like it? Why not? A helluva lot better than the overplayed "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun." Soundgarden's a great band, but if I never hear those songs again, it'll be too soon.

WHAT!? Those are classics! I just felt like Live To Rise sounded exactly like what it was, a song written and recorded for a movie soundtrack. I don't exactly hate it, but it's not something I want to hear a bunch. The chorus isn't too bad, though.

Definitely sounds like Coverdale .
Good song but far from any essential Soundgarden, maybe in the context of the album It'll sound better.
Oh and who said Spoonman and Black Hole Sun are not that good?

i don't think one should expect a rehash back to the "grunge" roots on the new album, i bet the album will have more to it and is more up-to-date in terms of musical influence..

Just listening to the album for the first time now and so far it's pretty good. Clearly you're listening to a Soundgarden album but too early to commit on whether it's as good as the last 3.

Currently halfway through my first listen. Doesn't seem like a particularly great album, but I'm taking a strong liking to "Taree". The ultra-silly "By Crooked Steps" seems to be quite good as well. I'll have to see about the rest.

it is like the Hunter, neads time to digest, couse of the technicality of the band. lots of layers and twists and odd-time sigs

Funny, because it reminds me a lot of The Hunter actually. But like that album I assume I will eventually find a few tracks I like and a few I don't care for. I'm just a bit sad that they're not as memorable as they used to be. In their heyday they could make complex songs that got stuck in your head immediately.

Download purchase only $3.99 from Amazon. Figured I'd get some immediate gratification and maybe buy the physical CD later on if I like it.

I've listened to the album a bit in the past few days and I've grown quite fond of most of it. My favorites are still "By Crooked Steps" and "Taree", the two tracks that stood out at first listen, but there's plenty of other good material. "Been Away Too Long", "Non-State Actor", "Attrition" and "Halfway There" do nothing for me though. All in all a pretty good album, probably around the same level as Down on the Upside.

I'm not listening to it too much but every spin it gets better. I don't think it will be one of my fav Soundgarden albums though.

I was just listening to Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger after a long time I haven't. I forgot how powerful they really are.

Really loving this album, faves being Non-State Actor, A Thousand Days Before, Blood on the Valley Floor and Worse Dreams.
Down on the Upside was a letdown as far as I'm concerned, my favorite albums are Superunknown, Badmotorfinger and now King Animal is in there also.
Great comeback for Soundgarden !

^Down On The Upside takes a while to fully appreciate, at least it did for me. Honestly, from the span of Badmotorfinger to King Animal, they never did release a "weak" album. All classics in my book.
