Recommend one if you want even if you don't have all on the list.
I had to double up on Magma for one poll and this is it.

The Chronicle Of The Black Sword for me. I remember getting it right when it hit the shelves in September of 1985. I was just starting University in Peterborough, Ontario, and there was one really cool record store in town. There i saw it, and there i bought it.Thumbs Up I think the store was called Moondance.
I was impressed right away with TCOTBS's production and song writing, first rate on both counts.

Theusz Hamtaahk Trilogie is one of the most awesome live albums out there

I'm going for the brazilian Invisible Opera Company Of Tibet which seams to be too obscure for the excellent excellent music featured on this album. This should appeal to a lot of you guys. Fabio Golffeti from Violeta De Outono is simply superb and is highly notable. Highly Recommended stuff.

Don't know too many off the list but I"ll throw a vote to Isildures Bane. Mind Vol 1 and 2 (and even 3 to a certain extent) are really great examples of modern prog rock. Love the percussive presence in this one too.

The second Magma also derseves mention as all sorts of awesome.

I know six of these qiute well and out of  those Magma-Theusz - Hamtaahk - Trilogie is the only true classic imo.

I did check out Invisible Opera Company Of Tibet. Relatively well done, but their mixture of generic spacerock/postrock soundscapes felt as unique and engaging as listening to Ozric Tentacles = not very.

I also listend to a few songs by Isildures Bane and Nicholodeon. Didn't really click with me either but atleast they didn't sound like tribute bands.

Sorry for being a little negative.

My thoughts too.  Honorable mention to the Hawkwind, which is one of the stronger post-70s albums of theirs I've heard, and Invisible Opera Company of Tibet, who I've been meaning to buy at some point, on the strength of a real great song I have on a Gong comp called "Chernobyl Rain".

edit: looking up the IOCoT's discography, I'm left a bit confused. Several bands in different countries with the same name, all by the design of Daevid Allen.  I'll need to research a bit more to see what's up with this group.

Wow i didn't even know about Hawkwind in 1985, in fact i just got this particular cd last year. It's a good one though although some songs like "Needle Gun" are almost too accessible. A concept album taken from some series of books from the sixties i believe.

Wow i thought having two live Magam albums together might split the vote somewhat. Apparently not. A triple cd affair that features the "K.A." lineup doing some 30th anniversary concerts.
I like the other live MAGMA listed here a little more. It's the same lineup as what's on the "Live/Hhai" record except we get Patrick Gauthier here instead of Jean Pierre Asseline. So we get Lockwood, Paganotti, Widemann etc. in this 1975 concert.

Nice ! That was my pick too. I wish it was more readily available because this is an incredible record. There's even a bonus track cover of SOFT MACHINE's "Moon In June" which is excellent.

I've had trouble getting into ISILDURES BANE but this double live recording which many consider to be their best release finally won me over. It's live but the band considers it to be a concept record and have done plenty of manipulation in the studio on this to get it to sound the way they wanted. They throw in sampled spoken word pieces and conversations. Lots of Classical and heavy rock passages. My enjoyment of it is still 3 stars but it's so interesting and adventerous that i know one day i'll appreciate it more.

LOL I'd rather hear negative comments than none at all so thanks. Yeah looking at this list last night before i put it up had me thinking that this should have been poll I as it's not that strong.

Yeah it's kind of strange but it's like Daevid Allen(GONG) wanted like-minded bands all over the world to go under that name INVISIBLE OPERA COMPANY OF TIBET. I think they are in Brazil, UK and Australia so far. Fabio who is from VIOLETA DI OUTONO plays the glissando guitar on here and it sounds so good.

Of the ones without a vote i would probably put HELDON at the top. Their second album and it's quite a laid back record with lots of mellotron. Pinhas even has a song with his idol's name in it called "In The Wake Of King Fripp".
HONEYLEK is great too as they offer up some Zeuhlish styled music. These guys all look like teeenagers in the liner notes. They are from France and decided to make up their own languageShocked. If you like WIEDORJE or ZAO you might like this album.
Another one on here with no votes that i really like is HARMONIA's Deluxe. The band here is made up of the CLUSTER duo, Rother from NEU! and Manni from GURU GURU.

It's so easy voting for Magma, but damnit if I don't just love that Ibliss Supernova album. Great for chilling in the sun and laying around like some psychedelic feline. Anyway that is where my vote went.

love that UFO Planante as well. Great job on that review John. It was what made me purchase it.

In the list, I only have the top three choices, and the bottom one.  Of those four, I chose the T.H. Trilogie.  My second choice would be the Heldon, and next the Honeyelk.  Theatre du Taur is also good.

I should look into that Harmonia album, as I only have the debut (Musik Von) and think it very good.

IBLISS had a bit of a KRAFTWERK connection as the main percussionist played on that ORGANISATION record and the drummer on KRAFTWERK's debut. A trippy album where they seem to jam a lot. Flute and sax as well.
Glad you have that UFO Planante record David it's a keeper.

Will MAGMA run the table ? 15 polls so we'll see, the next one is only the fifth but...it's MAGMA !

I wouldn't be that surprised if it does, but it depends on the list you choose.  There was a time that being a  Magma fan almost put you into this exclusive group, but then it got mlore popualr at this site with members chanting "Magma iss de hundin!"  Mind you, there are plenty of real obscurities in your lists which may cater to a more exclusive audience (the acolytes of the "out there"), so Magma would still have fared very well in this G-N series.  Even as a big Magma fan and avid collector of the band's music (as well as related projects), and someone who is probably in the top percent of greatest Kobaian vocabulary, I would like to see others do well, and certainly hope it isn't a sweep.  there is plenty of really good music in these polls that I hope plenty of people know (and I have lots to discover myself).

It does depend upon which album (though I suspect some might just vote for a name no matter what album). I suspect that Henry Cow would take a poll if not up against one of Magma's most popular albums, but we shall see.
Try Western Culture or In Praise of Learning vs. Merci (I like Merci, of course, but it has a bad rep).

Hey I just bought that Organisation album on vinylBig smile Feels much like the early Amon Düül albums, that is before they turned into Amon Düül Zwei!!! I do like that Organisation album more though.
Ibliss' album does beat both of these, and I particularly like that flute...

Glad you wrote that UFO Planante review tooWink

Thanks David, i remember feeling passionate about doing that review because of how much i liked the music.
I'm a big fan of that Organisation record too, although i must admit it's been a long time since i gave it a spin.

Tigers are still looking good, they just need one win and have Verlander for game 5 if it goes that far.

I had a listen to that Harmonia album today and damn it if it wasn't far better than what I remembered it to be...
I think it was Danish PA member Paravion (where are you btw?) who was/is extremely fond of this recording - actually preferring it to the cult classic debut. Not many do.
I must say that it was quite the trip - plus it has this warmth running through it that rather refreshingly distances itself from the colder ambiances of that debut. Very nice album indeed.

Same thing happened to me actually. I originally gave this 3 stars then i saw someone really praising it a long time afterwards so i thought i'd give it another listen and was really impressed so i bumped it up to 4 stars. Now i really enjoy it everytime i spin it.

Funny how music changes over time eh? Maybe it's the way we listen to it, but then again, I can't see myself surprised at how good a Britney Spears album suddenly sounds some 5 years down the lineLOL I gather it's a combination of the overt ninja-like qualities we encounter on a day to day basis in many a prog artists' repertoires and that ever changing brain in the old cabeza... Either way, I'll never stop feeling immensely thrilled when encountering old music that you originally had written off - now exposing itself in a new manner, and you suddenly realise its potential and worth.
