You have one month to decide: Your most current/revised "Desert Island" picks:

1. One (1) (I) favored band;

2. Ten (10) (X) favored discs;

3. Ten (10) (X) favored albums for their art (vinyl size).

30 days and counting . . .

Good luck:  We're all counting on you!

(Mine will be soon to follow.)

Has not the invention of MP3 players and portable solar panels made the concept of "desert island discs" obsolete? I mean, who the hell brings a CD player to the apocalypse?

So I just realized that the world is supposed to end on International Rush Day.  Pretty cool, huh?   That's what I thought this thread was going to be about, actually.

I will (maybe) come up with a list later when I don't have to write and edit things.

I love Symphonie Fantastique-i must have about 60 versions of it, my faves being Pierre Monteux-Paris Orchestra-1930 (the only recording with touchings taken down from Berlioz himself to conductor Eduard Colonne-sadly the written copy of this was destroyed in WW2-Monteux had it in his home, and he was part Jewish, so the Nazis did in his home)
Otto Klemperer-Philharmonia Orchestra-1960s
Bruno Walter -NY Philharmonic-1954

^It's my favorite symphony, although I only have one recording of it. Perhaps surprisingly, I like the second movement best. The orchestration and attention to detail is magnificent.

Indeed - whenever I see anyone scaremongering about this upcoming date I point out that the world does not end every December 31st.
And if the Mayans said it means we'll think differently about time, then why does that have to mean The End Of Time?
People are gullible idiots sometimes.
