I am currently digging:

Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz!

Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

The Wall has some very good moments, but The Lamb has rather more.

If the Lamb had been edited down to a single album of just the best bits, it could have been a work of near genius.

But The Lamb is left way behind by Subterranea, which is probably the most comparable concept album to it and a masterpiece.

Hello Michael,  this should answer your question.  From the "Frequently Asked Questions" section:

Why can't I create polls or vote in existing ones?
Poll creation and voting is only available to forum members with higher ranks than Newbie. Once you've posted 100 messages on the forum, you'll be able to vote in prog polls. This was introduced on the forums to avoid people creating fake accounts to mess with the polls.

Also, I'm having a very hard time deciding how to vote in this poll.  I think the Lamb is the most interesting and elaborate concept album ever written, but I also have enjoyed The Wall for most of my life - while the storyline isn't as deep or thought provoking as the Lamb, it's still pretty heavy.  And purely musically, it might have a slight edge.

Abstain for now.

The Lamb gets the vote, fairly easily, but I've a lot of time for The Wall. It was my introduction to Floyd and I still love it.

The Lamb Lies Down on The Wall and crushes it. I loved Floyd until The Wall. I find it far too condescending and commercial, a far cry from albums like Meddle, DSOM and WYW. The fact that radio stations played "Another Brick in the Wall" 1,000 times a day until I wanted to destroy my radio didn't help much.

Both remarkable albums by two fantastic bands. I voted the Lamb, just because personal taste, but the Wall is not far behind.

The Lamb. It's a work of art that makes me tear up every single time I hear it. It's such an overwhelming musical masterpiece and my appreciation for it grows with every listen.

The Wall is pretty good, but it has nothing on the Lamb.

Lamb. I can't listen to The Wall front to back. And Lamb has Tony Banks!

I was just thinking yesterday about the timelessness and brilliance of the Lamb's story: a man enslaved by selfishness going on a journey where he eventually finds himself only when he sacrifices his own desires for the life of another.  A common trope, but brilliantly told with The Lamb's quirky story and beautiful imagery.

The Wall is a good album too...but it's not even close for me.

The Wall for me. I've not really been able to get into the Lamb in its entirely, although there are some decent individual tracks included within it. Funnily enough, I actually enjoy the Rewiring Genesis (with Nick D'Virgilio) tribute to the Lamb more than the Lamb itself.

The Wall, because it's behind in the poll.
The live album is better than the studio album.
The live video is better than the live album.
The film is better than the live video.
Maybe the Broadway show will be better than the film? Depends on the jokes Roger Waters is adding.

The Wall was never just about the album, it was envisaged from the beginning to be an album and a live show and a film.  That makes it better than The Lamb.

Each album is a double.  If you were to remove the best half of the songs from each album, the remaining version of The Lamb would be better than the remaining version of The Wall.  If you doubt this, try it for y'self.  Decide your own order of preference for all the songs on each album, then try only listening to the lesser half and see which you prefer.  The lesser Wall songs are worse than the lesser Lamb songs.

But as we're considering two double albums in this poll, then The Wall (as a whole) is better than The Lamb.

I'm in this boat even though I'm not crazy about the Lamb. Maybe it's because when my friend Joe comes over we have to put the goddamn thing on. Then I have to listen to him dribble on and on about how great it is.

What comes across as mere obscurity and weirdness in The Lamb is actually an indication of the multiple depths the album and story explore.  Every time I listen to it, I hear something new, and it is all coherent.  The are many mythological aspects to it and it follows the classic hero's journey sequence.  This means to me that it hits at a more fundamental level of the human psyche.  The Wall is great too, and more emotional, but it doesn't go as deep at does The Lamb.

I don't even think The Wall is more emotional, sure it has an obvious storyline that is saddening (i guess), but it's paired with lackluster execution and simplicity that doesn't want me coming back for more.

The Lamb has...

The Lamia, 32 Doors, Carpet Crawlers, NYC, Light Dies... among other sections and such. Those satisfy me more than anything on The Wall - combined or not.

Regarding the pair as live shows, I think they were both incredible but I give the edge to The Lamb.  Building a physical wall to illustrate Pink's alienation from the audience was conceptually brilliant, but I always consider The Lamb tour (with it's 3 video screens, Slipperman costume, dual Rael's, etc...) to be the ultimate high point of theatrical prog.  What I can't believe is that a video of a complete Lamb performance has never surfaced.

The Lamb doesn't excite me at all and I never thought of it as a masterpiece, far from it.
The Wall is one of those albums that is bigger than just the sum of the songs on the album, it's definitely not the best and not my fav Floyd album but for my taste it's better than The Lamb.

The Wall. Lamb is half a good album. Even though it's odd to say, The Wall is far more consistent story-wise and more compelling from a character standpoint.

Also in my opinion the Lamb has aged a lot better. I thought i would never say it about a Floyd album cos even though I love the Wall it has not aged as well and classics generally do not age like other music does

The layers of THE LAMB are just too incredible and tear apart Pink Floyd's WALL into smithereens.

No contest for me. The lamb. Hands down. It's one of Genesis's very best albums.

Wow. Peter Gabriel went out on a massive high note leaving genesis. ;)

The Wall, easily. Neither albums are among my very favourite onea from each band, but I find The Wall's concept much more satisfying and better worked. And I at least like most of the songs, though I miss the longer songs with more instrumental passages from earlier albums (which is true about The Lamb too). On The Lamb there are very few songs that I actually like, whatever concept it has just doesn't interest me, and Gabriel's singing seems more annoying than ever (and it has less instrumental passages, which means it has more Gabriel singing).

I think it's about childbirth.

I think that's at least one aspect of the story, but really one of the great things about the album is that it's so deep that it can be about many things.

"The Wall" movie is one of the main reasons I'm here! This artsy film-student could not look away from the glorious spectacle and it made me look further into the genre. When I found out that Rush and Pink Floyd were part of this magical genre called "Progressive Rock" I was a goner
