For this 1971 poll, the rating of the lowest album has increased once again over the previous year indicating another jump in quality prog albums and tougher competition for the top 25 spots.

This is a list of the top 25 albums I got when I ran a PA search of 1971 studio releases with at least 100 ratings.

Note that the poll entries are presented in the same order as their PA rankings, high to low.

This is a multiple choice poll, so vote for all your favourite 1971 Prog albums!

Just a suggestion - don't do multiple vote.

LOL It may just be easier to point out the ones that I don't care for.
I've never been into Salisbury, Fragile or Inner Mounting Flame. The rest are all great to excellent.

I'm not sure what the confusion with Trespass is. This happened in 1969 too, it was released in 1970 - recorded in 1970 - and isn't even mentioned on either 1969 or 1971 lists by mistake.

I think it's kind of a nice gesture on his part.  Sure it skews the results, but it gives you the satisfaction of Democracy In the Fourth Dimension.

If everybody restrain themselves, and nobody acts like a f**king diot, I think it can give interesting results. It looks like it has worked well in the previous two polls, so why not continue with what looks like a successful way of running polls? Also, I for one think it's refreshing to have the opportunity to give more than one vote in some polls from time to time.

I went with the first 7, "Acquiring the Taste" & "Tarkus".  Would've been the 1st 9 but I've never been too crazy about "The Inner Mounting Flame"..."The Noonward Race" is an amazing song, but the rest of the album falls short for me and I much prefer "Birds of Fire".

Another great year! I voted once for almost half of them with The Yes Album, Low Spark, First Utterance, Jack Johnson, and Nursery Cryme being my favorites. Although I really enjoy Aqualung and Meddle, they are just kept out of my top five here.

I too usually disregard polls when they have multiple votes. I just don't know how honest the results are, anybody can just tamper them at will. I still don't understand why people do that, but it's a fact. Still, this poll seems honest enough so far... and I think the last multiple choice polls I've seen haven't seemed as if they were tampered with... but who knows.

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Aqualung isn't in the top 5 but the remaster would be number 1. Lots of strong tracks on disc 2 and first half of side 1. If you haven't got the quad cd then you gotta hear it. Hymn 43 sound way better

1971 must have been a crap year if an album with 4 pretty average songs gets the highest vote

^^But this is a prog pollGeek You've got both Purple and Sabbath mentioned, and let's face it, even if they are included on this site, have nothing to do with Prog outside of a few albums that flirted around with the style.

And hey, just a friendly advice. Drop the omnipresent nosy attitude in your posts and start talking about the music you actually do love, and you should get much more of a welcoming attitude methinks. Come on man! There are 25 albums to choose from, and the one thing you decide to mention, is just how wrong the majority of people are for voting an album you think is average at best?Confused

Still the same ol Doc I see...

I'm still puzzling about which album you are hinting at: of these 25 albums, only one has 4 songs on it (and at least 3 of these I wouldn't call pretty average, but that's my humble opinion). This album, To the Highest Bidder, has only 3 votes up to now (one from me btw).

I think he was referring to Nursery Cryme, of which he can only find 4 average songs on.
Yeah well bla bla. Just ignore him - he often does this kind of thing where he craps on famous albums in order to highlight the special and righteous music he himself listens to. The right kind, y'know?

The 4 average songs I refer to are:

Harold the barrel-mediocre
Harlequin-ok
Seven stones-ok
Musical box-ok(longer song, so must be a classic)

All very good lp's on the list above ............

these are in no special order for me....

Yes-Yes and Fragile
Genesis
Tull
Floyd
Mahavishnu
Caravan
VDGG

I started listening to prog early on around 69 so I tend to favor the so-called classic bands.
