Supporting the Softs here, but The Beatles were a serious candidate too, and Tommy.

Very tough vote : I wasn't aware that 'Wheels Of Fire' was a dbl album...??
However, I do have these LP's : The Dead, Davis, Beefheart, Floyd, Zappa (only Uncle Meat), Soft Machine, Duul II - and I was hoping Chicago II would be included on this poll too, but alas, no. Still makes for a very difficult decision - probably SM 'Third'.

I love all of them except George Harrison, which I've never liked. choosing one is tough, but I'll go with Yeti today.

Chicago II and Gypsy's first album both belong here but I guess it's good you left them out since I'd be forced to pick one. Of these I'll have to say Dylan.

I haven't heard the Dylan, Harrison, and Gratefold Dead albums, nor The Beatles album for too long, but love all the rest. Ultimetely I decided that it was between Third and Yeti, flipped a coin, noticed that it only had the heads and tails options, so tried flipping a pancake instead and ate it.
But that didn't help me make a choice, so I think I'm have to digest on it for a little while. Yeti and Third are both albums that I've voted for in many polls over my years here. Wish I could choose both -- Bitche's Brew, Ummagumma, Electric Ladyland and wheels of Fire (I really think Cream should be in the archives) are other particular faves.
Incidentally, another great option for my tastes (my taste includes more than pancakes) would be Magma's Kobaia.

Top three are Third, Yeti and Bitches Brew and probably in that order but I need to give Miles a vote.

Damn. The White Album is so inconsistent compared to Third, but lately I'd rather listen to the former. Still sounds somewhat fresh, and it's more diverse in style. I'm going with The Whitie.

In no particular order
Zappa
Miles Davis Bitches Brew still blows my mind after several hundred listens
Soft machine always a favorite
Captain Beefheart turned my head upside down
Hendrix this is still one of my alltime favorite albums of which I have quite a list
Cream everyone it seems always talks about Clapton but Ginger Bakers playing on this album is still incredible to me
was hoping too see the first Chicago album which really like can't say the same for the rest of their stuff or the Allmann Brothers at the Fillmore east which is still an incredible album after all these years and one more The Band Rock of Ages this album although it has nothing to do with any kind of hint of progressive music or jazz dor that matter it was the album that turned me onto jazz the horns is what did it what a horn section Joe Farrell.etc

As a brief aside, how would (admittedly non prog) Johnny Winter's Second Winter fit in? Side 4 had nothing, a 3 sided LP. (Most odd, ow come no live stuff that could have gone on there. But so it was.
Some impossible choices there. Tommy might be the most realized effort of the lot. Third as well. Uncle Meat for top tune (Dog Breath and the one on the reissue. BItches Brew for being awesome (that b9th chord that Pharoah's Dance is based around really gets me. Ladyland is an amazing listen - even the stereo sound sounds surround and I only have stereo. Very interesting experience ... pun not intended.
Harrison's album more sublime than the Beatles effort except for Harrison's main songs thereon. Sorry Whities. Wheels of Fire, Ummagumma (Live) shows how there was some really good live albums. The Dead with Dark Star for me.
So all up, best composed effort.. Bitches Brew or Tommy? Think I prefer the former... but only just. The Who made a great album. Really have got to have the lot. Lucky for me - I have.

Chicago Transit Authority or Chicago II would do for me. Aphrodites Child 666 was recorded in 1970 but not released until 1972 so may not have qualified.

| I haven't heard it, but I don't think I would. It seems weird that they released it on 3 sides when it was shorter than some single LPs
