What happened to Aginor ??? You can't just skitz-out and leave no explanation ???.....
Anyway, more folks need to give Elton albums a spin. Many are full of surprises. He certainly crossed over into Prog territory many times, but regardless of genre/ direction, he has some enjoyable material out there.

Just spun Captain Fantastic......, and really singled out the song 'Writing'. What a pretty little ditty that one is.....
......and the amusing comics books that came with the LP, always a good read.
So, what of Aginor ????   Surely Icarium couldn't have killed off dear Agi .........??

Aginor just needed to take a step down and Icarium took the chance and claimed the possition as me, Iccy is a complex dude though.

Are you asking what people think of Elton John?

He's ok sometimes, and dreadful sometimes.

I Just have a selection of his 70's albums which I think are a decent listen, a pleasant break from Hammill, VDGG, Magma, Henry Cow (just to name some 'heavyweights'). Actually, a lot of his stuff doesn't do much for me (possibly too 'pedestrian') but when he's good, he can be interesting.

He's an awful singer, but has made some good tunes..

Rocket man
Goodbye yellow brick road
I guess that's why they call it the blues

That's about it..

^ I'm looking out for nice copies of Madman and his debut when I go to record fairs.
Did give 17-11-70 a spin the other day and reckon that more Progheads should give it a go. By far my favourite performance from him. Still accessible and rocking, more 'entertainment' than a serious listen, but a smoking gig with just Elton, Dee and Nigel, really raw and gutsy sounding.......piano, bass and drums.........

If I want to hear good piano led songwriting, more likely to turn to early Billy Joel.

EJ had his moments, but in between them...

Rocket Man is probably his best song (imo). I would also add Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding to the list.

Yeah, there's probably several more. He's been around for long enough. Every now and then he gets it spot on and other times he produces crap like Passengers.

Too Low For Zero is a well structured song, not bad for an 80's hit.

^ You know, I once had a lovely Tri-Fold yellow vinyl of this album years ago, lent it to a friend (yeah, risky business...) who then lent it to one of his friends. Boy was I pissed with this. I never did get it back. It was a pretty good listen I recall, but I eventually moved on from ol' Reggie. I still insist that the 17-11-70 album is a treasure, even down to the rendition of Honkey Tonk Women.
Once when I performed in a 'battle of the bands' competition (we lost ) we did Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting. Dee is very good on bass, me, I prefer Pete Cetera coz he is plain kick-ass.
