This poll is based on the Prog Archives top albums chart for the years 1985 to 1989. Here is the chart: CLICK

I set the parameters to a minimum of 30 ratings, studio albums only, and then added the band/ artist for its top rated album of the years as I went down the list provided that it had two studio albums during the period. I also opted to avoid ones if one or both of the only applicable two were listed as collaborations (David Torn was a casualty of this). I organised the list alphabetically as I find that helps with going through polls/ lists often and put the albums in chronological order.

Dark, which I had wanted to include, for the self-titled and Tamna Voda was a casualty of not enough ratings. I had expected Ozric Tentacles to be in, but it and Phil Miller missed out quite narrowly. I had hoped to have Nazca in it and it also missed out quite narrowly. Had I changed the numbers of ratings, things would have changed, but I chose the 30 before using the chart as I did not want major obscurities, but also I hoped to cover some albums that are not very known.

For this poll I ask you to try to vote for your favourite duo of albums from an act rather than voting for one of those albums. And if that is not your preferred duo from those years from the acts in the poll or any other acts, please mention those.

------------------------------------------------------

Art Zoyd: Le mariage du ciel et de l'enfer & Berlin
    Autograph: Autograph & Stone Land
Kate Bush: Hounds of Love & The Sensual World
Cardiacs: A Little Man and a House And The Whole World Window & On Land and in the Sea
Coil: Horse Rotorvator & Gold Is the Metal
Crimson Glory: Crimson Glory & Transcendence
Dead Can Dance: Within the Realm of a Dying Sun & The Serpent's Egg
Fates Warning: Awaken the Guardian & Perfect Symmetry
Peter Gabriel: So & Passion - Music From The Last Temptation of Christ
Allan Holdsworth: Metal Fatigue & Secrets
Horizont: Summer in Town & The Portrait of a Boy
    IQ: The Wake & Nomzamo
Marillion: Misplaced Childhood & Clutching at Straws
Pat Metheny Group: Still Life (Talking) & Letter From Home
    Miriodor: Rencontres & Miriodor
Prazsky Vyber: Vyber & Prazsky Viber
Queensr˙che: Rage for Order & Operation: Mindcrime
The Residents: Stars & Hank & God in Three Persons
Savatage: Hall of the Mountain King & Gutter Ballet
David Sylvian: Gone to Earth & Secrets of the Beehive
Swans: Holy Money & Children of God
Talk Talk: The Colour of Spring & Spirit of Eden
Thinking Plague: Moonsongs & In This Life
    Voivoid: Dimension Hatross & Nothingface
Watchtower: Energetic Disassembly & Control and Resistance

Some duos that missed out on being listed due to the parameters:

    Dark: Dark & Tamna Voda
Nazca: Nazca & Estacion de Sombra
Phil Miller: Cutting Both Ways & Split Seconds
Ozric Tentacles: There Is Nothing & Pungent Effulgent
David Torn: Best Laid Plans (with Geoffrey Gordon) & Cloud About Mercury

------------------------------------------------------------

For Dead Can Dance, my favourite from that period may be Spleen and Ideal (1985). That and In the Realm would be my duo but I very much like The Serpent's Egg too. With Swans, I am more into The Burning World than Holy Money and feel it's a better album than its reputation indicates -- and the song "God Damn the Sun" of it is a damned masterpiece of Swans in my opinion.

Some of my favourites that did not make it onto the list on the chart are The Camberwell Now, Shub-Niggurath, Univers Zero, Present, News From Babel...

My favourite duos in the poll are Art Zoyd's Le mariage du ciel et de l'enfer & Berlin, Cardiacs' A Little Man and a House And The Whole World Window & On Land and in the Sea, Thinking Plague: Moonsongs & In This Life (my fave TP albums), Dead Can Dance's Within the Realm of a Dying Sun & The Serpent's Egg, Talk Talk's The Colour of Spring & Spirit of Eden. Also, Kate Bush's Hounds of Love & The Sensual World, The Residents' albums and those Miriodor albums I like very much.

With Coil, I like Horse Rotorvator a lot, but don't know the other one (The Age of Naples is my favourite Coil album). Mentioned Swans, love Children of God.

Marillion followed closely by IQ. I actually like Nomzamo a lot, but it lets the IQ side down a bit.

It doesn’t, neither of the Menel albums do….

But I go with Marillion, that pair of albums is irresistible!
