Some cats just do not like to be picked up. I have one now. She will fight you if you pick her up. She is friendly on her terms and only on her terms. People should be cautious picking up cats they do not know. A cat can do a lot of damage in a very short time.

This following sequence of events happened, not to me, but to a friend
1. you visit elderly aunt 2. elderly aunt's cat wants attention 3. you pick up cat and try to stroke it 4. cat objects and starts fighting 5. cat scratches your face 6. you release cat, which falls to floor 7. on landing on floor, cat shoots off out of house as fast as it can run 8. as cat runs away you lash-out with foot pretending to kick it 9. elderly aunt screems, ejects you from house 10. elderly aunt tells your mother you drop-kicked her cat into the garden. ![]() |

^ I had to teach my last cat, Maynard, to keep his claws retracted when he kneaded directly on me; one night I extended a claw and gently tapped him on the nose with it. He felt how sharp they were and immediately got the message. Always gave me a 'soft knead' from then on.

Clown gets on me and "kneads" me because she likes the material of the sweater (polyester). She'll do it even if I'm not in it.

Our cats did not awake us by getting on our face but they certainly did by such 'kneading', we called it 'pedaling', they would get on top of one of us and start pedaling non-stop (mostly on me, much more often than on my ex). Could have felt annoying but it always felt cute, then I would put them next to me rather than on top of me and it worked for a while, then after a while they moved again on top of me.

Yeah our cats walk on our heads, evidently it is just as solid as the ground but at least their claws are in the off position when they do. Our younger cat loves to play fetch and will bring whatever you throw back as many times as you are willing to throw it. They are a constant source of amusement.

^ I looked up "Zigman", but got nothing cat-related.
![]() ![]() Clown never tapped my eyelids or lips, but if she ever wants to check out the inside of my mouth, I'll let her right in! Free pass! ... Haaaaaa... ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaa. ![]() On a more serious note, no, she's never done that to me. She doesn't care about me. She'll just hop off me, walk around in the shop, resume her hunting, or signal me that she wants to eat or wants to be let out. Sure, she will walk on my head, but that's just out of convenience, ... to get to the chair next to the couch.

The bedroom is a pet free zone, so no. I love them dearly, but do not want cat hair and kitty litter tracked from feet into the bed. So we shut a door that blocks them in another part of the house at night. Judging by how they act when we sleep on the couch sometimes, they would wake me just by trouncing over me to get comfortable next to me. The Zigman is not dexterous despite the reputation of cats as so. |

No is the short answer. Usually cats that have wanted to wake me have sat on me and started to push there paws into me alternately. (If that makes sense)
Then screaming 'get up you lazy sod don't you know its my breakfast time' in my ear!

Help me I'm falling!

Curious cat question to all who have cats in their homes: While you are asleep do any of your cats wake you by gently pawing or tapping your eyelids or lips?
Over the years we've had three different and unrelated cats do this - even though it is very gentle and always with claws retracted, it's a little unnerving and guaranteed to wake me rather quickly. I've never seen them do this to other cats, they're inclined to be more aggressive and direct when waking another cat.
