I won't laugh, seeing them live was so divine, no other live experience came close to it Big smile

Same old, but I hardly found any the enthusiasm in it Ermm

I have the CD but I'm considering selling it, it's so loud I don't find any pleasure in listening to it.

I don't remember the last time I heard so few albums in a week:
Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill
Jorge Palma - Acto Contínuo
Fausto - Por Este Rio Acima
Jonas Munk & Ulrich Schnaus - Passage
Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygène (It's incredible how it always sound so fresh despite having listened to it hundreds of times.)
Osanna - Palepoli (It's been a long time since I heard it. Thanks for remembering me MFP Thumbs Up)

A fruitful day which actually included a lot of prog for once:

Earth & Fire | Andromeda Girl — I’ve been an outspoken fan of this group for a while, even for their 80s Europop phase of which this is arguably the peak. This is more for ABBA fans than prog fans. But I love that stuff too.

Royal Trux | Twin Infinitives — disturbingly weird. They eventually turned into a dirty-ass rock and roll band like a gutter version of the Stones, but this early double album is all scary weird noises and (so I’ve heard) lots and lots of drugs. The result is so weird I’m at a loss to describe it. Kind of like the early Residents if they adopted a rock attitude.

The Proletariat | Voodoo Economics & Other American Tragedies — excellent Boston punk band from early 80s. This is a 2 CD anthology which may or may not be their complete works. Very sharp and intelligent. If you like Gang of Four and wouldn’t mind hearing them play faster and louder (but just as precise), check em out.

Sahara | Sunrise - German band some of you probably know. Really solid album. Reminds me a lot of Nektar, but more aggressive in spots.

Phil Manzanera | Diamond Head - Robert Wyatt and Brian Eno guest on vocals. I’m not as crazy about this album as I could be (the 801 Live album is better, IMO), but still quite an adventurous outing for the Roxy guitarist.

Lift | Caverns of Your Brain - first release on the Syn-Phonic label. Really high energy, 4 lengthy tracks that never get boring. Heavily influenced by early Yes. Recorded in 1974 but remained unreleased until Greg Walker released it in 1990.

Cathedral | Stained Glass Stories - another Syn-Phonic release, also influenced by Yes (more like Relayer) but I hear some VdGG in here too. Recorded in 1978.

Happy the Man | 3rd - Better Late... - the last recordings (recently found an original vinyl on the Azimuth label!), including Eye of the Storm, one of the 10 most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.

Focus | Hamburger Concerto - long time since I spun this! Really kicks ass. Nice.

Wigwam | Fairyport - ditto for this! Awesome piano/organ arrangements and dramatic tunes. Glad I got this out again. Sounds amazing.

Bloodrock | s/t — the early 70s were so cool that even some redneck bands couldn’t help but get a little proggy. Love this album. Bunch of shirtless longhairs from Texas with a singing drummer. Some great riffs and some pretty mysterious and surprising moments in here.

Magma | Live — this is like church for me. Magma is the most spiritual band in my listening sphere, and listening to them (to me) is like being one with the Godhead. Go ahead and laugh. This is the sh*t.

Been awhile, but glad to hear it was a false alarm Steve, things are so nuts now.

See if I can remember what I listened to.

Todd Rundgren - Something Anything
Tony Banks - A Curious Feeling
Ennio Morricone - Good, Bad, and the Ugly  (RIP Ennio)
Ennio Morricone - For a Few Dollars More
Steve Miller Band - The Joker
Rick Wakeman - Silent Nights
Luciano Basso - Voci (so sweet)
Steve Hackett - At the Edge Light
Squackett - Sea of Smiles
Rick Wakeman - Time Machine (I guess everybody took an 80s "shart" in their pants moment back then)
Rick Wakeman - Themes (much better effort)
Anthony Phillips - The Geese and the Ghost

A few others I can't recall...

As for the Steely Dan, it was inspired by this book I’m reading called “Major Dudes: a Steely Dan Companion”, which chronologically compiles published articles, album reviews, and interviews with (mostly) Becker & Fagen. I like the interviews best. Those guys can finish each others’ sentences and they’re hilarious, if a bit snotty. I’ve been listening to the Dan as long as I can remember. My dad (named Dan, how bout that?) had all their albums and played them a lot throughout the seventies, when I was elementary school age. So they’re really a part of me, and it was definitely comforting to hear in my cocoon while I awaited test results.

Recent listens:

Amen Dunes | Through Donkey Jaw
Amen Dunes | Love
Robert Pollard | Coast to Coast Carpet of Love

That is beautiful man. And you are inspiring to us all by how you reached to your sonics to help you through a tough fever. Back In January I had a fierce fever and was sick for 2 weeks straight cause I couldn’t get quality sleep cause of my son. That was the toughest sickness I’ve ever went through.. Tangerine Dream helped pull me through.
Glad mr. Dan helped you.

Had a nice little morning with a small crop of CDs.
Got up super early to have this time.

Deep Purple— Shades of Deep Purple. (Disc 1 and 4). New favorite Deep Purple song? Bad Attitude. So brilliant.

ZOMBI—2020 ( I like it. Same old from these guys but they do it so well. Really got the Goblin thing going. )

Grandmaster Flash— They say it couldn’t be done. ( awesome album. Hiphop at its finest. )
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

Steely Dan (all the albums thru Gaucho)
Guided by Voices (shuffle of umpteen albums, EPs, singles, outtakes, etc nearly 500 tracks in the mix)
Frank Zappa (the newest 1970 box set and the Zappa in New York box set)

Yeah I’m sorry you went through that scare, my friend. Thats the thing now. :(
Whereby anytime someone gets sick with a cold, fever or any flu like symptoms Most people immediately think they have Covid.
Well, I’m just glad you are okay.
So Steely Dan is your convalescing health guru hug? :)
Mine is Tangerine Dream and Peter Gabriel.

Sorry to hear you've been ill and glad it was just a scare and not the real thing! Music is always the best medicine in trying timesSmile!

Not been listening to too much this week as getting jobs done etc in preparation for our first week off work since Christmas 2019!!! And i'm often working 7 days a week in the garden, estate and farm generally!
Listened again to the reissue of Wigwam 'Being' double lp and I must say the 2002 remix/ remaster makes this lp of dense ideas and multilayered instrumentation much easier on the ear and mind. The 'slightly overloaded' recording levels and density of sound works fine for 'Fairyport' but the original mix of 'Being' is just a bit too much to take in to fully appreciate the glory of what's actually there. Listened again to some of my recent Ozrics/ Ed Wynne related stuff as its great stuff to listen to when doing a repetitive task- Energising and relaxing at the same time!- Have been under pressure to get certain ex animal stock fields cut and cleared then deep scarified as we are establishing a lot more wild flower meadows this autumn.. and just in time as the rain has come with vengeance this weekend!

So next week, as we're not going away, I plan to listen to a lot more music and will report backSmile

Sorry to hear that Steve, I'm glad it was just a scare. Steely Dan might be one of the most calming bands ever, I plan on discovering more of their music.

Yellow Magic Orchestra - XooMultiplies

The Cardigans - First Band on the Moon
Tomoyo Harada - Clover
Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising
The Cardigans - Gran Turismo
Casiopea - Super Flight
