Gave my vote to Opeth, it didn't have any and surely deserves one. Great debut!

Marillion, Transatlantic, Wobbler, IQ . . . but a lot of good listens on this this.
Welcome to the middle of the film.

I assume by "modern" we mean, quite literally, "modern history," which is anything after the Medieval period.

Quite a tough choice - particularly between Cardiacs, Swans, and PT - but even though I miss the OG version of "Radioactive Toy" from Tarquin's Seaweed Farm I have to go with On The Sunday. Swilson's early, oft Floydian cuts that went on to make up OTSOL remain some of my all time favorites of his.

not necessarily in that order, but those are my top 4
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Imo the first modern prog album was either the first album by Echolyn (self titled) or Anglagard's hybris.

Yeah I don't know about albums released in the 1980's being labeled as "modern." Why not just call it "post-70s prog?"
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Anglagard from the list. Some very good stuff in the list.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Exactly my thinking

I completely understand both of your thinking, but I’m going with Present anyway!

Three truly outstanding albums in the list:
For All We Shared - contains some of MA's best songs (Heroes Never Die, The Night Sky, Out of the Inn)
Out of Myself - superb dark, moody prog from start to finish
Tales From The Lush Attic - any album with The Last Human Gateway, Awake and Nervous and The Enemy Smacks has got to be great.
And The Sentinel is also very good.
I can't pick from these.
A TVR is not a car. It's a way of life.
