Ummm I am sorry to hear that. Honestly those Fish Era Boxset reissues are pretty disappointing except one thing and the sole reason why I buy these lavish boxsets is for the Blu ray Audio. I love 5.1 audio and I wish I could comment further on the Script boxset, but sadly I’m being victimized by snail mail.

Anyhow, the remix and remasters by Michael Hunter and Avril Mackintosh are pretty garbage sadly. Just way too much compression and processing. They really suck on cd and just sound like they’ve been just made “louder”, however the Blu ray’s hold decent weight. Way less compression.

Well Doc. Sounds like the script boxset suffers from more anemic, boring and brittle mixes. Guaranteed “FUGAZI” will sh*t the bed too when they release that set.
It is too bad that engineers can’t get it through their fat heads that ‘louder’ is simply better. Ugh. I hate Michael Hunter.

^ Beautiful list man. How about that Osage Tribe album? Sound quality aside I always loved it, now come to think of it I haven't played it in a loooooong time, but one thing that I do remember are those energies!

Not sure that’s the real reason for the Marillion substitution, but just my theory. Also, hi, The Doctor!

Hi HolyMoly.  I thought that might be the case.  But I really hate it when art is sanitized like that even when it's done by the original artists.  I can't speak for the current members of the band, but something tells me Fish wouldn't approve either.  To me, it's like Lucas changing it so that Greedo shot first.  Leave it the way it was (I know the "battle priest" version has existed since the beginning, but that was sanitized for the singles market).  If you're going to release the EP, release it in its original form and add the "battle priest" version as a bonus track or something.

Anyway, enough ranting about that.  I'll just download the remix to my computer and swap out the first track for the 1999 version of the title track.

Today's listens:
Paul Kossof - Back Street Crawler
Peter Hammill/Gary Lucas - Other World
UFO - Making Contact
Fairport Convention - Come All Ye (Disc 4)

Coming Up:
Heart - Dog & Butterfly
Goblin - The Devil Is Back
Tranquility - Silver
Billy Sherwood - Oneirology
Pendragon - Not Of This World
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Don’t think I’ve heard that Picchio dal Pozzo before. I own the debut (amazing) and remember having a tape copy of another one.
Embryo! Love that band so much. Burchard has kept it going through the decades too, at least until his daughter took over the business a few years ago. She can play just like her dad. Heartwarming. <3

Steve I'm glad you 've mentioned that PDP album because I just love that thing. If you're into their S/T (well how can you not?) and being a big Avant/RIO fan that you are, I have no doubt you'll love this one as well. Chronologically it is actually their second album and not third, it was just released in 2001. So since it was recorded at the end of the 70's the style is between the two studio albums. It's not as canterburyish as the first or avant garde as the second it is still warm and interesting, fantastic album all the way.

Speaking of PDP another must have album is their live album playing their material with Yugen, excellent stuff. I'm sure you can check it out on youtube, very recommended!
you make it sound awfully tempting. Must czech it out. (I i know they’re not czech so that decreases the value of the pun, but these are lean times).

Sam, re:

“I’ m a huge fan of Atom Heart Mother but I actually never checked out anything from Ron. Do you know his work?”

Definitely yes. I’d say try out Music from The Body (with Roger Waters) first, it’s about 80% Ron. If that stuff doesn’t turn you off, you’re ready for the other stuff.
“Right Through” is probably the most musical of the ones I know, the very early stuff thrives on absurd Scottish humor, so if you like that kinda thing, go for it.

“I tried the Zappa album, I couldn't get past the first 20 minutes Ouch”

Ouch indeed, it’s one of my favorite albums ;). But it’s not for everyone, not even Zappa fans.

“Did you listen to the other 5 sides before or you just picked a random side? LOL
I chose side 6 specifically because it fit my mood. It’s one of those albums that gets really abstract and weird at the end, and I just needed some wonky mood music . :)

I really love his music and videos. He's insanely creative and while his discography goes all over the place, his quirky and honest personality is everywhere.

And just wanted to point out that I've seen all the raving reviews about it and actually couldn't understand why it's any different than Men Who Climb Mountains quality wise, I even think Men is slightly better than Love.

That Bent Knee is definitely a good album, it doesn't bring anything new to the table and I don't think it's better than the others and certainly not as good as Shiny Eyed Babies but don't get me wrong I like it from start to finish.

Did you like that Hackett album? I always liked it with all its flaws and incohesiveness (is that a word?) and it's rarely gets any mention around here, I actually haven't listened to it in a few years but remember I'm quite fond of it, especially that woman vocal track.
I think it's the cover that draws more attention to it, compared to Men. I guess I'll have to re-listen to some previous albums before trying the new one, it's been a while since I heard anything besides "The World", the only one I have.

I guess it was the right album at the right time for me, but more objectively I agree, SEB is still their finest moment. Curiously, I find myself returning to Land Animal more often than SEB though, it's their most fun to listen.

It was my first listen although I recognized the songs I saw him play two years ago. Yeah, I was rather confused with all the different styles and singers thrown in. Unfortunately though, my CD copy is damaged and it keeps skipping on the last two tracks Disapprove

My Solid Ground - My Solid Ground (Damn good discovery. That first track is just a classic Kraut trip.)
Masayoshi Takanaka ‎– An Insatiable High
ABC - Lexicon of Love
Susanne Sundfør - Take One (I wasn't expecting to break down in tears when I picked this album, but "Walls" just spoke to me in this particular situation.)
Haken - The Mountain (It's been a while since I fully played it. Amazing as always.)

The great isolation party continues. And welcome back, Michael (The Aussie prog Sensation. )

Arena— The Cry. ( best EP they’ve ever released. )

Killing Joke— s/t ( dave Grohl on drums. Pretty damn good. )

Sisters of mercy— A Slight Case of Over Bombing. ( The Temple of love. That is one magnificent tune. I played it 7 times in row. )

The Devin Townsend Project — Ghost. ( man, I really like this! Ambient Devy works. Totally forgot about this album from my “Contain us’ boxset I have.

Disturbed— Asylum. ( A great album. Stupidly recorded but musically it rocks. )

Yes— Fragile ( MFSL edition. ) My favourite YES album. It has it all for me and is such a great group/band effort. )

Iron Maiden— The Book of Souls. ( this one still resonates well with me. )
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣
