What the deuce?? Sagi
Good to see you round these parts and also brilliant to know that you’re still spinning the pork.
I must revisit that Diagonal again as I really dug it whilst preparing for the AOTY thing.

Last few days:
Semiramis - Dedicato a Frazz
Edgar Broughton Band - Oora
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
Plat du Jour - s/t
Janko Nilovic - Rythmes Contemporaine
Tusmørke - Bydyra (just saw a two star review of this by Matti....he’s of course completely wrong in his assessment!!)
Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
Elder - Lore
Pond - Tasmania
Pond - The Weather
Magazine - The Correct Use Of Soap
SBB - Nowy Horizont
Cluster - Sowiesoso
Talking Heads - Fear Of Music
Ochre - Lemodie
Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love
Genesis - Nursery Cryme
Busta Rhymes - Extinction Level Event
Curtis Mayfield - Superfly
Norman Connors - Dance Of Magic
The KLF - Chill Out
The Temptations - 1990
Dead Can Dance - Dionysus
Elephant9 - Psychedelic Backfire ll
Die Wilde Jagd - s/t
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasuredome
King Crimson - Starless & Bible Black
Igor Wakhevitch - Hathor
Siinai - Sykli (I know this band well Samuel and indeed dig the Supermarket album. They haven’t made a bummer yet. If you’re interested in hearing their sound go a bit post-punk then by all means check out the collaboration they did with Moonface entitled Heartbreaking Bravery)
Weather Report - s/t
Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
Henry Cow - Western Culture
Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Klaus Schulze - Irrlicht

^^ We can always rely on music, during weird times and otherwise :)

I only heard it once and wasn't impressed by it, it seemed too soft, but it also took me a while to fully enjoy their debut. I'll have to try to listen to it for its own merits.

I was thinking about listening to their debut again for comparison but I was enjoying the new one so much I kept returning to it.

An awesome way to start a concert for sure, I love that riff. I had no idea how the band sounded now, that's good to know.
I'd probably see Gong and Soft Machine next month if it wasn't for the virus :/

^ Great to hear from you Sam, it is a weird time indeed but at least we have music to fill our days inside.

The new Worm Ouroboros is coming along slowly, haven't given it too many spins actually but it's definitely good so far, I'm not sure it's gonna top their excellent debut but will see...

And man that Diagonal album is amazing! so beautiful and mature, I think I like it more than the first album, definitely one of the best albums from last year.

Just saw Caraven live a few months ago and they opened with Memory Lane the opener from Girls...excellent stuff and what a show! Geoffrey Richardson was so incredible, along with his flute and violin he played some mean guitar solos!! I haven't seen this coming.

^ Sagi! Hug I'm glad you're well despite the current events. How are you enjoying the new Worm Ouroboros? I remeber you got me into the debut at the time. What do you think of Diagonal's latest? It was one of my favourites from last year.

Steve, definitely check out Zopp, I think the glowing reviews are justified. By the way, I tried Winwood's album and I dropped it after the third song. It's the same problem I have with many Traffic songs, he extends them too much.

New Haken single, new PRR album and new Maserati album. What a day!
Astrodome - II
Caravan - For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night (The bonus tracks are great, more jammy. I guess the band didn't like Derek's Long Thing :P)
Pure Reason Revolution - Eupnea
Maserati - Enter the Mirror

Ayer y hoy

Mike Keneally | Scambot 1 — bought from Mike personally at ProgDay last year. He signed it as well as a couple of older CDs from my collection I brought along. This is a crazy good work. I’m starting to think my brain is starting to lose the capacity to understand how dense and rich it really is, as I migrate towards more minimalist stuff in my advanced age.

Steve Winwood | s/t — such as Stevie Winwood’s debut. Not much in the way of hits, it doesn’t really sound like Traffic or his later solo hits. It’s definitely groovy. Chill out to this some day, you’ll thank me.

Jonathan Winters | Here’s Jonathan - classic comedy record. He’s a funny dude in the movies, though I’m kinda new to his records.

U2 | Rattle & Hum - the point where I officially fell out of love with U2. The movie just pissed me off. So I’d never really listened to the album, though I’m familiar with at least half the songs. But now I’m giving U2 a clean slate. And this was... eh, I dunno. It’s pretty diverse, I’ll give it that, and the final track is awesome, but some of the epics I hoped would wow me failed to do so.

Passport | Cross-Collateral - some German fusion. Incredibly tasty.

Slovenly | Thinking of Empire - US mid 80s underground alt-rock on SST. Best description of the music is “Television with a taste of Beefheart”, and my best description of the singer is “an acquired taste”. I’m a longtime fan though, I have just failed to get anyone else into them for 30 years. Damn you, singer.

Van Halen | Van Halen - my god this album rules. Listen to it again from start to finish. Nary a weak spot.

Van Halen | Van Halen II - about 85% as good as the debut. Love “DOA” and the 2 hits especially.

Sunn 0))) & Boris | Altar - one of the best works by either artist. That says a lot. A rare example of a collab where each group multiplies the talents of the other.

Saccharine Trust | We Became Snakes — classic jazz-punk. Sounds as fresh today as it did 30+ years ago.

Descendents | Everything Sucks - their 90s reunion album, and easily one of their best albums overall. Contains many favorites like “I’m the One”

John Scofield | A GoGo - first listen. Did a synchronized listening chat on Facebook. Nice stuff. Classy fusion.

@Sam, re: Zopp

Oh good! The main guy actually messaged me a couple of months ago to request being added to the site. I could tell by his description and musical background that he and his band were definitely legit. He contacted me because I’m still listed as the Canterbury Team lead on the site, even though I haven’t been on a team in years, lol. And even then (and I presume since), Canterbury requests were very rare, let alone new additions (I primarily handled RIO/Avant). So I alerted the JazzRock Fusion team (which also handles any Canterbury), and linked them to the suggestion thread I advised him to create. Unfortunately, their album wasn’t out yet, so they couldn’t evaluate the band yet. Apparently everything went very smoothly from there, because they’re already added with a couple of glowing reviews already. Sometimes additions can take a lot longer. They must have really made an impression. You seem to like em too. I’ll give a listen soon.

^ Thanks my good Sam! I think we are all proving to be great masters of our sonic temples. Extremely eclectic and diverse lists from everyone here. Best thread on PA.

More DNR rich recordings. Music that breathes!!! :)

Again. Last 2 days. All wonderful and engaging listens I feel.

Black Sabbath— Sabotage

King Crimson— ITCOTCK (2019 remaster. Extremely well done!)

Trivium — Snowfall on judgement day ( the only great recording they have! What a shame they never stuck to it. )

Sisters Of Mercy — Floodland. ( Unbelievable. One of the best and most favored recordings I have. Sonic bliss. )

Incubus Sukkubus— Belladonna and aconite. ( Yup. A gothic rock that has audiophile grade fidelity. Who knew? )

Genesis— Trick of the Tail. ( first edition GERMAN release. Wow. Just wow. This honors DNR day hardcore. )

Godsmack— Live & Inspired ( their best recording period. This got cranked. One of my favorite double disc live albums I have and know of. )

This post will conclude my DNR tribute and I will go back to non discrimination of music fidelity. :)

Hey Nick, nice list you have there Thumbs Up

Steve, Dreamtime Return is fantastic! I guess I should return to it Big smile

Can - Future Days
Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
Zopp - Zopp (Nice! Canterbury with a modern touch and neat production.)
Synaesthesia - Synaesthesia
Siinai - Supermarket (David, there's a Danish seller on Discogs that has a really cheap vinyl copy of it. I'm sure you'd dig this a lot.)
Hiatus Kaiyote - Choose Your Weapon
Renaissance - Novella (Is it just me that finds the cover creepy?)
Mike Oldfield - Platinum (I find it better than most here.)
Ben Levin - Freak Machine Live (One of my fave live performances on YT. It's so good I don't even like the studio version nearly as much.)

Frankie Dymon Jr - Let It Out!
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Plat du Jour - s/t
Between - And The Waters Opened
Sahara - Sunrise
Reve Générale - Howl

That Sahara album is one I bought at a regular store in the early 90s - when a few stores would stock these weird prog things that suddenly became available on CD. I haven’t heard it in a long long time. Need to revisit!
I remember buying that Frankie Dymon CD a few years back while shopping around with my dad. We listened and grooved together to it in the car afterwards.

Today/yesterday:

Camel | Rain Dances — one of their best, I think.

Ray Thomas | From Mighty Oaks — oof. A tad corny, but well produced.

Moody Blues | On the Threshold of a Dream — my ORIGINAL album. Where it all began for me.

Monks of Doom | The Cosmodemonic Telegraph Company — man these guys were great. Glad they reformed to do more (great) stuff

Husker Du | Metal Circus — on air pods in bi-weekly grocery trip today. White-knuckle music

Guerilla Toss | Twisted Crystal - also from bi-weekly trip. Listening to this band is like walking on the moon.

United Waters | Sunburner - a favorite from 2014. Abstract weird indie stuff.

UFO | Lights Out - 1977 hard rock old school. Good to revisit.

The Strokes | Is This It? - been in my car CD player for the past couple of weeks and plays during my infrequent car journeys. Gets better and better.

Ray Lambiase | Live Broadcast on Youtube - right now. An old friend of my wife & me (her former boss in fact) is a folkie classic singer/songwriter type (he was a contemporary of Billy Joel back in his pre-fame days). He’s playing acoustic and singing nice orig tunes while my wife is in the chat room with other friends. Nice times.

I can’t remember where exactly I came across that Sahara album but do quite vividly recall the first time I span it. Just something about an album you have zero expectations for and it ends up being saucy sauce.
I think I have a bootleg copy of the Frankie Dymon Jr album..the cd does not look kosher to me..still provides me with oodles of joy whenever I remember to listen to it.

Also
That is the best description I’ve heard of Guerilla Toss! Just so happens to be a band that I’ve been digging the last couple of weeks.

U2 | Zooropa — pretty cool album. I stopped listening to U2 after Achtung, and have only
heard a small chunk of their stuff thereafter. Taking this opportunity to give it a chance.

Black Sabbath | Technical Ecstasy - another rare listen, this one’s kinda eh but any Sabbath with Ozzy (or Dio) is worth hearing).

Crispy Ambulance | Accessory After the Fact — live show from British post-punk outfit

Genesis | Calling All Stations — hoo boy. At the time I hated this with a passion but I’ve mellowed towards it since. It sounds like a below average neo-pop-prog album now, which isn’t the worst thing in the world. I just wish there was more personality in the arrangements. It all just sounds like a tub of bland pudding.

Steve Roach | Dreamtime Return - lovely ambient double album, based around the Australian outback, iirc.

As of March 27th (Friday) was Dynamic Rage Day. It is a movement started by Ian Shepard to encourage more artists to allow DNR present in their music.
To honor the occasion I’ve been spinning recordings that are recorded nicely.

Last 2 days.

Tool— Fear Inoculum ( this album won the award for best sounding modern day recording by a mainstream artists. Well done, Tool!)

Genesis— Duke

Bill Withers— Greatest hits (MFSL)

Pink Floyd— WYWH ( First cd pressing. )

Metallica— Black Album

The Cure— Pornography

Jeff Buckley— Grace

Mieko— Playing Favourites ( Chesky Binaural recording )

Iron Maiden— Powerslave ( get an original cd recording of this and you won’t be sorry. )

Dire Straits— Alchemy (live!) pt 2. ( you gotta hear telegraph road. Set your amp to 11 and enjoy! )

Godsmack— Awake ( yes. This 1998 offering is one of the first CDs I ever bought and is a great example of how you can still record a bit louder than necessary but still retain some space and headroom in your mixes. This album actually has incredible sub bass as well. )

Rush— Signals. ( MFSL Edition. )

Depeche Mode— Music for the Masses ( Dave Bascombe’s 2nd greatest production)

More to come...
