Thrice he posts!
Yesterday:
Die Wilde Jagd - s/t (Finally got my hands on the debut! Blind buy and I am not disappointed..even on the backbone of their magnificent follow-up Uhrwald Orange which I got first. Sounds like a contemporary take on old school progressive electronic, the germanic variant that is. Heavily psychedelic trance inducing soundscapes with an affinity for motorik beats a la paddling two-stroke engines on a small river raft. I’m completely hooked and so looking forward to the release of the new album Haut)
Kate Bush - Never For Ever
Kate Bush - The Dreaming
Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love
Kate Bush - The Sensual World
(I am somewhat of a latecomer to Kate - only really having listened to her debut as well as a good portion of her work for eval purposes here on PA...but never really REALLY gave her the time that she deserves. The three-punch combination of The Dreaming, Hounds Of Love and The Sensual World though made me a true believer...and slightly weak in the knees )
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasuredome
Caribou - Swim (The track Bowls should please fans of pans...in a very literal manner)
Pond - The Weather (Love these guys. Instant feel-good vibes. Surfer-psychedelic rock band with art pop instrumentation of the 80s..or something to that effect)
Tangerine Dream - Logos (Also one of those instant feel-good vibes eliciting albums. Like jumping into a river that also happens to be a rainbow..or maybe that’s just the synesthesia talking)

Aw thanks man! I find myself stumbling upon some oddball album, occasionally by international associates, and wind up jumping into a rabbit-hole of albums I've never heard of. My love of ladies with strong accents also helps with that.

New Oranssi Pazuzu coming out soon, with a song or two already available on YouTube. Gonna be a corker!
Hyaena is something else...as psych as they got. Side two is a trip, but pisses off the grumpier goths.

Listening today to more Jolin Tsai, the queen of Taiwanese pop and a total Green Party supporter (aka No to China, yes to freewill). 'Dancing Diva' was mostly pants, but 'Agent J' had some real bops.

This thread inspired me to whip out OMD's Dazzle Ships again. I enjoy this one the most by them; I feel like some double agent in 80's Berlin when I play this, and that's a hell of a cool feeling to have.

I am also looking forward to the new Oranssi Pazuzu. I hope they extrapolate on the psychedelic caveman sensibilities of Värähtelijä...but then again I am proper a psychnut. Also why Hyaena and Kiss In The Dreamhouse are my faves from Siouxsie
Feeling like a double agent in 80’s Berlin eh? You have no idea just how enticing that sounds to me!

P.S. ‘Mostly pants’
Awesome name for a band.

I only have that one has well, a first English vinyl pressing, but I'd very much like to add more to my collection. It's one of those bands I've always known (I remember playing the Enola Gay melody on the keyboard when I was 6/7 Tongue) but never payed them any attention until recently.

I love when that happens
That is when music from one’s childhood years suddenly jump back into existence again. Often I find it’s music that I somehow found ‘lame’ or overly ‘poppy’ during my teen years that nowadays take on a wholly different expression.
Hell I am currently listening to Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Welcome To The Pleasuredome
...and I absolutely love that album! I think it’s a crying shame that 90% of the western world has the band pegged down as an 80s take on The Village People.
Yet when you really dive into the album it’s littered with odes to famous writers and poets alike...and that’s just via the lyrics (title track is actually inspired by Coleridge’s Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner), and then you get Steve Howe guesting on acoustic guitar plus a truckload of Trevor Horn at his finest.
In many ways I think of this album as a natural continuation of the 60s and the sexual freedom it spawned alongside a slightly updated hedonistic version of anti-war.
OMD is a different beast altogether but to me a similar experience in that it’s a band that I never ever would have given a chance 20 years ago. Back then I was all about REAL music with BALLS
I some times look back at my younger self with pity. I overlooked so much brilliant music simply because it wasn’t ‘cool’ or some other halfbaked reason that I convinced myself of.

Lee Ritenour - Feel the Night (I only knew him by name but didn't know his music, which is very tasteful.)
Steve Roach - Structures From Silence
Lee Ritenour - Friendship
Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising (Looking into RYM top albums of 2019. A very enjoyable slice of retro Pop.)
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters
Alice Coltrane - Journey In Satchidananda
Quel Che Disse Il Tuono - Il Velo Dei Riflessi (Argh, did they think the drums sounded good? Even the most obscure 70's RPI had better sounding drums...)

Two Byrds with one stone:
Donald Byrd – Ethiopian Knights
Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd - Jazz Samba

Some early 20th century music:
Aaron Copland - Our Town
George Gershwin - Rhapsody in Blue
Maurice Ravel - Le Tombeau de Couperin
Sergei Rachmaninov - Piano Concertos no. 1 & 4
Gustav Holst - The Planets

Nice call with these two. Grimes may have squandered her cool cred being the eccentric celeb & all, but I can't help but enjoy her stuff (like a more poppy Gang Gang Dance). The fact that she's still a current 4AD girl kinda blows my mind; dat label be makin' bank.

Been listening to a lot of mandopop the past couple of days, maybe showing subconscious solidarity with the Asian-Americans dealing with racism. Shout outs to:

Angelica Lee - Man & Woman: Everyone knows her as the actress who starred in the horror flick The Eye back in the early aughts, but damn the first song on this is dream-pop heaven.

Angelica Lee - Ocean of Love: In this case it's the second song that owns, a sprawling, complex beauty that's practically prog-pop.

Faye Wong - Chang-you: Love dat album cover. Lots of glorious dream-pop ala Cocteau Twins with only a couple of commercial ditties I would skip.

Faye Wong - Fuzao: Damn the Cocteau vibe is real strong with this release...but hey, Faye is actually saying words a whole lotta folks in the world can understand (not me, but she might've said ni-hao somewhere).

Jolin Tsai - Castle: The "Nice Cat" song is loaded with "meows", which alone justifies it's inclusion in my heavy rotation.

Jolin Tsai - Muse: The dance pop bangers dominating the first half are so catchy that I can almost sing along to them at this point.

The other batch of albums I tried were too ballad-heavy to even mention here...no point mentioning them (forgot a few of them entirely).

I naturally assumed the selftitled would be the debut
Then again Edgar Broughton Band’s selftitled album is their third outing.

^ David - Marquee Moon is Television’s debut. The self-titled album I listed is a reunion album from 1992. A bit more laid back but very good.

Nice Ozrics pick. I’ve been digging those guys lately. In fact they were part of today’s program:

Ozric Tentacles - Waterfall Cities (can’t help spinning this wonderful meeting between space rock and Goa trance)
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
Simple Minds - Sons & Fascination
De Lorians - s/t
Ochre - Lemodie
The Band - s/t
NOFX - Heavy Petting Zoo
Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac - s/t
OMD - Architecture & Morality
Sun Ra - Space Is The Place
Björn J:son Lindh - Från Storstad Til Grodspad
lots of greatness there but I’ll focus on OMD at the moment. I ignored them all my life until a couple of years ago when I was going to see them in concert at my wife’s behest (a triple bill with Barenaked Ladies headlining, which I wasn’t looking fwd to but they did a fun show). So before the show I tried getting into OMD and their appeal was so easy to see from the start. Great pop music with classic pop songs, with an electronic base. Made sense. I have a near-complete collection of their stuff now. From this album, “Souvenir” takes my breath away.

Today:
Soft Machine | Switzerland 1974
Television | Television
Minny Pops | Sparks in a Dark Room
Monoton | Monotonprodukt 07
Harry Pussy | You’ll Never Play This Town Again
The Strokes | Is This It?
Spirit | Farther Along

I only have the Architecture & Morality album but have been looking to add Dazzle Ships to the collection. I remember getting into The New Stone Age and then being slightly disappointed when none of the following tracks sounded similar
Over time though I’ve been getting more and more into pop music (preferably the quirky kind with strange handles on) and now I love all of the album.
Never heard the Television debut...but absolutely adore Marquee Moon.

Yesterday:
Dungen - Tio Bitar
Neil Young - On The Beach
John Maus - Screen Memories
Fläsket Brinner - Fläsket
Embryo - Steig Aus
Primal Scream - Screamadelica
Dave Holland Quartet - Conference Of The Birds
Exuma - s/t
Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam

Hello my wonderful friend from ze Denmark.
I see you’re up to your usual and amazing eclectic, diverse album selections. Papasan approves! Speaking of being papasan, I am spinning so much Ambient and easy listening music for my son to sleep during the day for his nap. My go to is the music from the video game Chrono Trigger. It was a classic RPG from 1992, and the music just happens to be baby medicine for quality nap times.
Anyhow jut felt like mentioning that to you cause you brought up that point about how to get my kid to sleep more and better. It is working.

Wow...so people actually take my advice some times?
I gotta show this post to my mother. She’ll throw a laughing fit!

Just kidding...I’m really happy that my little electronic music trick paid off. Truth be told I’ve only ever used it on other folk’s kids...but usually ending up with a chillax mini-human on the verge of sleeping

Ah Nick, gotta love SRV. Been revisiting him lately. I remember Cold Shot was the first tune I heard, on “Friday Night Videos” which I would tape every week (we didn’t have cable, so no MTV). The video for that song is pretty funny, I’m sure it’s online somewhere if you haven’t seen it.

Slayer! I play them on very special occasions (super-amped or super pissed) and have a decent selection of their CDs just in case. Reign in Blood is for when I need to set my stereo’s knob to Destroy.

Tonight’s line up.

Stevie Ray Vaughn— Couldn’t Stand the Weather. MOFI edition. ( Damn. Everyone needs a little ‘cold shot’ in their lives.

Melody Gardot— Currency of Man. ( this is such a great and soulful album. Huge fidelity as a bonus too!)

Slayer— Reign In Blood ( my god it is fast. This album is a blur! )

Grimes— Visions ( my god this is weird but somehow I like it? Pretty innovative. I’m gonna call progressive bubblegum fun with electronics. )

Kraftwerk— Trans EUROPE Express ( my favourite from ze verk. Love this album. Metal on metal is the best track. )

Psychotic Waltz— The godless void. ( bring on round 3!!! )

Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣
