The first of five albums from German Space Rock band, The Cosmic Jokers. Bizarrely, all five albums were released in the same year of 1974.

This Agitation Free album is more Jazz-Rock than Space Rock and it's quite a departure from their usual style of music, as the album title implies...

Hi, BINGO ... KC I have reviewed their first album ... all the others ... I have a review of TFTO ... but I'm not letting it go until the day I pass away ... it's a huge finger to a lot of rock music! Bigger than the Mad Magazine cover when it told National Lampoon to take a flying leap into the steaming heaps of life!

^^ I like to review the obscure, long-forgotten British albums (such as Ramases' "Space Hymns") that not many people know about, so I won't be reviewing any albums by Camel, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Renaissance, YES, or any other of the big names in Prog-Rock.

Hi, I've thought of reviewing just about all of those albums from those days ... but honestly, I enjoyed them so much, that I don't want to ruin the great day and time ... with words that just have no meaning ... anymore. Reviews are getting lost under the fabric of the corporation's top ten ... and no one bothers to read them! It's sad, because at one time, around 50 years ago, it was just about the only way you could hear about the great films, the great new music, the great literature ... but today, none of it matters because all the news are about one goon, or one blonde. Anything for commercialism, I guess!

When I reviewed Ramases' rare "Space Hymns" album recently, I discovered the four members of 10cc were the backing musicians on the album, although "Space Hymns" sounds nothing like 10cc. It's more like the kind of album you might expect the Hare Krishna religious sect to record.

Hi, Basically, the show was more about anything that was not American, and NOT PLAYED on American radio, and 10CC fit, and it wasn't until the Wall Street Shuffle kinda became somewhat known that the band really jumped and took off ... I look at it as a bunch of "art rock" at the time, and it fit because it was not the same old rock music with the same breaks and the same setup and the same damned solos.

^^ I wonder how 10cc ended up on that obscure and eclectic list of artists. They seem a bit too mainstream for a space pirate radio station. It's definitely the kind of radio station I'd like to listen to though. It's much better than our boring old BBC Radio 2 in England.

Hi,
This is a listing (not quite complete) from Guy Guden's Space Pirate Radio, for the first 6 to 9 months or so of the show in 1974 ... for the most part within the first year from the first show in January 1974, the complete "krautrock" scene was played and this includes the stuff from the Couriers and the other fun/crazy/stony stuff that some members still trash quite a bit as they were, apparently, completely ripped off ... however the feeling of fun and tripping in a lot of that early stuff is magnificent, and I'm not sure that it was given enough of a listen, before the media started the anti dope thing ... and all the ugliness around it all. Edgar Broughton Band Ten CC Nektar Amon Duul (1) Ash Ra Temple Klaus Schulze Guru Guru Kraan Capability Brown Gilles Zeitschieff Rare Bird Kayak PFM Sparks Focus Stoneground Sweet Smoke Hawkwind Neu Roedelius Faust Syd Barrett Soft Machine Roger Ruskin Spear Brian Eno Incredible String Band Can Amon Duul 2 Alice Bowie Galactic Supermarket Edgar Froese David Bowie Esperanto Tomita Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come Quatermass Third Ear Band Seventh Wave Principal Edwards Tangerine Dream Fripp and Eno Ron Geesin Plus Aphrodite's Child Vangelis Caravan Jean Yves Labat Walter Wegmuller Supertramp Manfred Mann's Earth Band Todd Rundgren Jane Secret Oyster Vivian Stanshall Carmen Gryphon Garry Moore Band White Noise Second Hand Le Orme Banco Tasavallan Presidenti Brainticket Ange Steve Hillage Cosmic Couriers Popol Vuh 4 Karat Gold Khan Darryl Way's Wolf Aqua Fragile Agitation Free Embryo Ramases Some of it fits as "space rock", but the odd mixes and unusual material always stands out, and is remembered fondly ...

The CD's by either band are not easy to get hold of either. It seems the only way you can buy the CD albums is online. I've never seen them for sale in record stores. Hawkwind is the only classic Space Rock band I've seen in any our local record stores in Nottingham. We have one of only four Rough Trade stores in the entire world in Nottingham, but I've had pretty rough trade every time I've been in there because they hardly ever have the music I'm looking for. For instance, I asked them today if they had any CD's by YES, Genesis, Renaissance or Van Der Graaf Generator, but they had nothing, Nada!

Two solid prog bands......I like Agitation Free a bit better but Brainticket is more 'dynamic'....more in your face.
Hard to find on original vinyl these days.....
