Finally, honorable mentions,
 
5) Bernard Herrmann - "Vertigo Theme" - Vertigo
6) Paul Giovanni & Magnet - "Willow's Song" - The Wicker Man.

My podium:

1) Wim Mertens - "Struggling for Pleasure" - The Belly of an ... 

If I have to be honest, this is the only soundtrack that I consider at the same high level of sound quality as Preisner's for The Double Life of Veronika which I proposed. By this I don't mean that this poll is of low quality, on the contrary, it's a poll full of beautiful songs, but on my personal, intimate, emotional level, these two songs touch me in a very different way from the others. It's no problem, which is why I was asking in the first place.  I know there is the matter of time and etc. when doing polls, so, since there hasn't been a prog poll for a while, I thought I would just ask to see if anyone would be interested.  I did get a few responses, but the lack of responses usually means there isn't any interest.  Anyhoo, I don't really want to jump in on this non-prog poll either, I'd rather let anyone who wants to to have a turn first.  I've been pretty busy lately, so its all probably for the best, if you know what I mean.

Apart from the fact that I have a lot of work to do next week and therefore it isn't clear right now who runs the next poll (I was on top of the list), I'm still not too happy about a rhythm any faster than once a week. (Which would mean that the answer is "not before Monday", but the real answer of course has to be given by who runs it.)

Monday was suggested and that’s when I did this. A week between starting polls is I think good, and a little respite can be nice for the timely.
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

So many great choices to choose from once again.  Here's my top three, but I must say I went back and forth several times before coming to this conclusion.

1. Rezner & Ross - "Technically Missing" from Gone Girl.  Rezner is quickly becoming another favorite of mine among soundtrack composers.

2. Clint Mansell - "Pi R Squared" from Pi.  A late entry, but definitely a huge favorite.

3. Ennio Morricone - "Magic & Ecstasy" from Exorcist II.  Morricone had to take one of the top spots as I have always loved his music, but this is one I was less familiar with, up until now.  

Honorable Mentions are Osanda and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

By the way, there is a not much interest in the prog polls, so I'll leave that one alone.

I listen to the wonderful youtube playlist now. This is going to be tough... I have now listened to the first three (Paul Giovanni, Lisa Gerrard, John Murphy), and they're all vote-worthy. Thumbs Up

The three I voted for:

1) Bernard Herrmann - "Vertigo Theme" – Vertigo
2) Clint Mansell - "πr2"- π
3) Wim Mertens - "Struggling for Pleasure" - The Belly of an Architect

The Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone,  Zbigniew Preisner, and Tiberiu Olah were also in contention for the third spot. Mertens just won out. 

If it had stayed in, L'arena would have been in the third spot.

To be honest, I never really likd the Jackson Lord of the Rings films. I can enjoy them more now. I loved the books growing up and read them many times. And although it gets some derision I also really liked Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings film.



With Peter Jackson, I preferred his earlier films -- Heavenly Creatures I loved. Bad Taste was fun, and I enjoyed Braindead. The LoTR films just never connected to me anywhaere near as much as the books, but this is common.   Thee film I liked at least as much as the novel was Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451.

For family fare with my daughter, Ghibli was where it was at. Just re-watched Spirited Away the other day with my son (he's my youngest), although he didn't like it as much as my daughter had. His favourite fiction film is Inception, but usually he prefers documentary type stuff (science/nature programs). My favourite family fantasy films by the way are Time Bandits and The Dark Crystal.

I apologize for not having chimed in so far. I did start listening to all the suggestions put forward in this thread, but then I stopped. Blame a rather blah week (problems sleeping, hot weather, feeling overall depressed, etc.), and also the fact that I've never been a big movie person. I'll try to pick my three faves during the weekend.

I am also with Icarium.  I love the films and the music, both, and they have nostalgic value of good times with my son for me.  LOTR extended version marathons for many, many years before he went off to college.
