They're not official PA ratings. They're unofficial ratings solely for the purposes of this poll, so I wouldn't worry about it. Wink

official or unofficial, read what Jared said above, I could not have said it better.
No one pays much attention to my ratings anyway so what does it matter? Smile

well, it seems some people do pay attention to your ratings and comments.

I don't think you can give any album a rating until you've given it your undivided attention and heard it through at least three times; it's disrespectful to the artist. If you've played something through only once and you find the thought of giving it a second spin unbearable... just don't give it a rating as you're not in the best position to do so....

Or I'm not so sure about it, with all these ratings of yours, so much focus on them and maybe quite a lot of unsatisfied people. Ermm

it was not his ratings that people found upsetting, but his comments, Ian pointed them out earlier.
Well, at least I've made the effort to finally listen to some Avant prog albums even though I knew I probably wouldn't like them, but I can't say I wasn't warned in advance,
 especially by you. Tongue

I kinda know what you'd like and what you'd not. I guess you have a lot of time on your hands if you can spend it listening to music you dislike. Confused

It really has nothing at all with your ratings, Paul, as so many have said, so many times. No one has been upset (or surprised) by your ratings, as by now we all know your tastes. But you just keep on with your wilfully obtuse missing of the point. We know you do that so well! 😄🤪

Personally, I am not offended of upset by any of what you say. I’ve lived in the UK too long, and met and known too many Englishmen like you, to take offence.

Having now listened to and rated all 25 albums, there's plenty of scope for dissatisfaction and it'd be really quite extraordinary if anyone actually agreed with all my album ratings,
 which they don't. Big smile

So it’s partially my fault that Mostly Autumn are tied with the discordant shambles that is Present. You’re welcome! 😜

I'll get over it. Stranger things have happened in the world of prog, but at least I can console myself with the fact that Guapo, Swans & Thinking Plague didn't pick up any votes at all against Mostly Autumn's four votes in the poll.  Big smile

I'm gonna torture myself with some Mostly Autumn, see what ratings I'll come up with LOL

I have focused on the Avant Prog comment, and while I am into Avant Prog and don't consider Filth to be Avant Prog, not do I really enjoy Filth, my concern would be there if it was not about a category that I like a lot from. I do think you have really missed or evaded my point, and we are talking at cross-purposes. I also feel that I could spend a long time trying to write a detailed, well-constructed and thought-out essay as explanation and you would just quote a few words and miss the point, so there is I think no point in us continuing conversations.

By the way, maybe I will try listening to the earliest Mostly Autumn song, I'm sure it wont make me decide to swear of everything that I or others might label Prog Folk (or I guess for the analogy, perhaps "more conventional, melodic music" would make more sense since Mostly Autumn's is labeled Prog Folk), but then I have the advantage of being into a lot of Prog Folk. I haven't explored Mostly Autumn music, but should it come up in a chat with someone who I appreciate such as Paul and he recommends some that he thinks would fit my tastes, I'd be sure to check it out. And if I enjoy something and people have put time into explaining what they might and might not enjoy and been warned that the first album and that the band changes, then I will try to keep that in mind. Note, this kind of conversation is not just been Swans or Avant prog, I have made similar points with Therion (which I haven't even really been into) and others not to quickly judge by the first album or too easily dismiss something, nor do these issues only relate to my experiences with Paul.

Paul liked this by Swans (Michael Gira), and I was pleased, but it didn't really matter: CLICK I appreciate that he took the time to listen to it and hopefully my advice and comments on Swans was rather helpful. The first album would be one of the worst places for Paul to start, but I understand that's what he does. Generally speaking, I think one should be careful when judging something and with the comments (especially if people have gone to lengths to try to elucidate you and that seems to have been ignored to make the same kinds of comments again and again).

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Cheers to being the black sheep of PA. Beer

Cheers. I like Anglagard's Hybris album, but hubris led me to believe Mostly Autumn were going to win this poll, only for them to be beaten into joint fifth place by the wonky carnival music of the Cardiacs. Cry

My favourite batty scene from "Black Sheep" featuring  Ozzy Osbourne Wink

And to double the insult not only are Mostly Autumn behind Cardiacs they are tied with the discordant shambles that is Present.

It seems Paul has the same adoration that isn't necessarily shared by others for Mostly Autumn that you have for The Swans.

I wonder to what extent he would come out swinging if someone did an unfavorable review on a thread dedicated to his heroes, especially if someone wrote "Well, after 60 seconds of that bombastic caterwauling I won't be listening to any more symphonic metal".
