Yes. Fairly easy choice.

Rounding out top 5 would be Genesis, Rush, Gentle Giant and ELP.

Recent artists would be Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree, Big Big Train, Plini and the Aristocrats ( they may be more properly a fusion band).

The band I am mostly impressed by and that I listen to extensively is PFM. Even their later stuff is amazing.

I don't have one. I have lots of favoured acts. Sometimes it just depends on what I am listening to at the time. Of the bands in PA, I guess I have listened to Fishmans the most of late, but while I wanted it in PA and remian glad that it is included, I feel like calling it Prog is not the best description for its discography. I actually don't like to segregate my collection into Prog and non-Prog. That does not work at all well for the kinds of music that I often listen. Not including artists: Art Zoyd, Magma, Swans, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Van der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, Cos, Stereolab, Can, Popol Vuh, Radiohead, Spirogyra, Tangerine Dream, Cardiacs, Comus, Soft Machine, The Residents, Embryo, Eskaton, Kayo Dot... are some of my favourites included in PA.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

My tastes have changed a lot in the last 20 years but Rush, Anekdoten and Porcupine Tree are still my top three. I guess that's that first love thing.
RUSH is my answer.

Back in the 70s, Yes with Genesis and Renaissance right behind. In the early 2000s, Flower Kings and IQ. Now Big Big Train, although that is waning with the untimely death of David Longdon.

Can if I include the solo work, otherwise probably Art Zoyd. King Crimson, Talk Talk and Cardiacs are further candidates. When I was young, Tangerine Dream and Eloy.

I would have chosen Rush, but their 80s output didn't really appeal to me that much so I'm going to say Porcupine Tree - consistently good from the first to the last album.

I guess there're two which stand out:

early Genesis (Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, SEbtP, The Lamb)
early ELP (the debut, Tarkus, Pictures, Trilogy, BSS)
