Portnoy is overrated rubbish.

imo.

All that tells me is that you have no understanding whatsoever relating to a drumkit or percussion.
Note that I didn't slam Bruford or anyone else - I merely stated the obvious. You however appear to be quite caustic relating to musicians that you don't like.

Gene Krupa. No drummer had more style. One of the very few drummers that was absolutely entertaining and mesmerizing to watch.

Not everyone defines best as 'most hits per millisecond'

I'll vote for Ringo Starr - he's awful when it comes to technical precision, but out of all this blippity facelessness, he's the only one whose drumming I can remember and discern after the music's over.

like Baldfriede told, Peart is a hot drummer but as a drummer myself for 35 years ( i' m a 2 bass drum player by the way), there's so many others that people in this forum maybe don 't know who maybe play as good as Peart .

i can name so much names but i maybe will make it soon in this forum...people have to re-discover some drummers of the 70's  like S.Phillips. Brian Downey, Fritz Randow, Cesar Zuiderwijk ...of Golden Earring...this guy was and always is amazing, also Peter Voogt of Ekseption and also Pierre Van Der Linden of the band Focus, Jos Zoomer of Vandenberg ( 80's band) ...so ...so ...many others...also some in jazz music like Tony Williams in the old times...B.Cobham and Michael Walden in Mahavishnu orchestra...you have to listen to the Mahabishnu orchestra  ''Montreux '74 '' dvd to see this .

"fanboyism and ignorance"  seems a little harsh on people just musing about who they think is the best drummer.  Oh, BaldFriede wrote that, never mind.

OK, Jazzman ... I DO agree, it's a bit harsh when talking about "your favorite drummer" vs "the BEST drummer".

Damn you, I AM a drummer!  A pretty good one, too, although I'm not surprised I didn't make the list.  :  )

I am a drummer too, and pretty good as well.

Modest too.

I don't think much of false modesty.

It isn't false modesty to say "I'm a drummer too" without adding "and I'm pretty good too" That last bit couild be not used.

I guess he's banging his own drum  LOL
