Just a heads up for you admins.

I received that same message too, which immediately put me on spam alert, wondering if we'd all been spammed with the same message -  and it looks like we have. Smile

RPI is one of several sub-genres of prog that I've never really got into - my main interests lie in symphonic, eclectic, psych & space, Canterbury, and heavy prog.

THX for un-hiding my post! It would've been a pity had my input been lost forever because of a certain "Sweet Onion" :P

Does anybody know why my post here: {LINK} is "pending approval"? Did I say something wrong? I was responding to somebody, but their post is gone.

Received it too. The website seems legit. But it's spam nonetheless. He could simply have posted it in the forums!

^ Thanks, I received it too. I figured maybe because I was one of those who posted in the recent Italian Prog polls. The site is legit and he wants to promote it. Not the best way to go about it.

Quote I would like rules about AI, and unfortunately it is hard to enforce (there would be invasive ways to limit it).
If I was you, I would do whatever it takes to enforce it, similar to what the Newgrounds staff did!

Spam is like a box of chocolates, squidgy, processed pork with plenty of sodium nitrite as a preservative.

Spam is unsolicited, generally repetitive, generally unwanted, and comes in bulk, flooding commonly, and the internet tech/ computing name does come from the Monty Python Sketch. Generally it is stuff sent out to many sites, commonly emails, for commercial purposes/ financial gain. I hate that AI stuff and it really worries me when it comes to discussion boards, reviews, bios etc. here. We might as well just have all the members be AI if that is what we use to communicate (and it might go that way too). I would like rules about AI, and unfortunately it is hard to enforce (there would be invasive ways to limit it). If one is putting up multiple/many unsolicited AI generated posts and reviews then I would consider that to be spam. Unsolicited AI generated content here is spammy to me. What we call it is not that important except when it comes to the rules, and I would like rules on it as said.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

I suspect the term derives from the classic Monty Python Spam sketch - it's foisted upon you whether you want it or not.

When it comes to emailed spam it probably applies to anything from sources you've never heard of, advertising stuff you don't want (and probably also a scam).

As for technical definitions for these kind of terms I usually refer to Computer Hope.

In the context of forums, my understanding of the term 'spam' is that it refers to posts that have no relevance to the discussion in hand, AND are made purely for the purpose of self promotion, or promoting a product or cause (that no-one is remotely interested in).

Subsequently it differs substantially from practices such as going off topic, or trolling.

Yes. Indeed. Discussion. AI bots are by design not able to participate in a discussion because they lack self awareness.

I think that providing misleading/false information with the use of a AI bots is spam as well. The forum rules were written in 2005 when AI bots were not a thing yet. But now, it's an evolving grey area. And it's becoming more and more dangerous because it gives trolls and scammers new powerful weaponry. The "tectonic guitars" thing was just a taster of what spambots can do to ruin a human-based discussion community, injecting loads upon loads of machine-made nonsense into our online conversations.
