^ At least the album title starts with a J, and you could omit Zombi since you probably didn't listen to the whole thing
![]() By the way, I read you comment about Griot on the other thread, the drums' production is the only negative thing on the album, in my opinion. Did you hear the drums for the upcoming album? They sound much better

Awesome! I'll have to give it a listen ![]() It's great, full of energy and fantastic musicianship. I particularly liked "These Yellow Sands". I remember you talked about the debut once, but I'm not sure if I actually listened to it. I took a few pauses to listen to the whole thing, I'm glad I bought this one on vinyl

The Cosmic Ground live one sounds great, Sam, although probably not much different than the last few studio albums. However all four of the lengthy side-long pieces sound very different from each other. One is a really heavy brooding classic Berlin School piece, one is uptempo and trance-like, another is an ambient drone, etc. I'll get a review done in the next few days most likely. Were you considering getting an LP of it?
![]()
How did you find that Diagonal one, mate? Have you heard the debut as well? I had to check to see if that Zombi one you mention is the same one as I have, and sure enough it is, although I have the CD version...funny you mention the length, I never get more than half way through it without getting bored out of my mind! ![]() |

Diagonal - The Second Mechanism Ash Ra Tempel - s/t Salto - Passeio das Virtudes Savanna - Dreams to be Awake Savanna - Aurora EP Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Blacknuss Sacri Monti - s/t Zombi - Shape Shift (It has too many similar tracks, especially on side C, they all sound the same. It could be a fantastic single album though.)

^ I heard some bits of "Broken China" but never the whole album, I remember it was very different from the Floyd style. Where should I start? It has too much trebble, so some guitar/keyboard parts are earpiercing (and sometimes distorted), and you can barely hear the bass. Plus, the drums sound very flat and too much on background, it's impossible to feel any groove. The worst parts are the noisy ones, with plenty of percussion and other sounds, it sounds very confusing and I can't even distinguish a single instrument. Nice list! How's the new Cosmic Ground?
![]() By the way, it looks like I'll probably see Moonspell playing "Wolfheart" and "Irreligious" at a festival next September ![]() Yesterday: Jorge Palma - Acto Contínuo Gary Numan - The Pleasure Principle Electric Light Orchestra - Time Riverside - Love, Fear and the Time Machine Camel - Nude (There's always a long time between spins, I never remember much from it.) I've never heard `Wet Dream', Sam....or at least not in twenty plus years Don't know if I even have a copy of it...going to go and have a look.
Did you ever hear his `Broken China' album from the Nineties? Not bad at all...has a couple of dull stretches, but it has its own unique sound, quite electronic and `modern'. What about `Relayer' makes you cringe, Sam? It's a cold icy mistress, no doubt. Tonight's choices: Il Rovescio della Medaglia - Contaminazione P.F.M – L’Isola di Niente Banco del Mutuo Soccorso – Io Sono Nato Libero District 97 – In Vaults Enchant – The Great Divide Glass Hammer – The Inconsolable Secret Kansas – The Prelude Implicit Ozric Tentacles – Straigeitude Cosmic Ground – Live Edited by Aussie-Byrd-Brother - June 06 2017 at 06:35 |

^^ The first two are the only ones I have, I bought them a while ago. My copy of Tales is not in great condition though. I'm more familiar with BNW now, it was easier to enjoy ![]() Yesterday: Ethiva - s/t Richard Wright - Wet Dream (One of the best solo Floyd albums, in my opinion, right next to "On An Island".) Yes - Relayer (It makes me cringe in many parts, I'm not sure if it's the production or just my copy) Klaus Schulze & Pete Namlook - Dark Side of the Moog Vol.5 (The saga continues. For the first time it's not a continuous piece but it's much more inpired than the previous volume. I agree with the ratings on this site, so far.)

^^ So Michael, I guess what you are saying to me "Is this the CD I am looking for. " :)
You know something. Those DIGI sleeves are boring. I agree with you, but I sure would like to have a physical copy regardless. A disc is a disc and I've heard the production/mix of the album is nothing short of steller. Anyway my friend, I will for sure check out the thread. I eagerly await to hear if Waters is up to his curmudgeonly, hard assed antics again. :) oh and I haven't ordered ze new Clive yet. I think it'll be cheaper for me to wait till it's on amazon I think? Sam. Any APP album you drop money on is worth it. AP is a first class audio engineer. All 10 APP studio and live albums sound out of this world production wise. I should also say that I really find not much fault with APP's music, but I must say that Tales of mystery & imagination as well as I Robot are the very best progressive works from the band. If you have those 2 albums you are in pretty awesome shape with them. :) Also, I dig the 'Brave New World' spin! I will be seeing Iron maiden in concert next month and it warms my heart to say it will be my 5th time seeing the band. What a live act! Anyhow, I hope you like that album. What a great transitional album in there career and right at the turn of the century too! :) Today's mandatory fun with discs. 3 Teeth-- Shutdown. ( for those who like Tool and noise gremlin antics this is a great spin. ) Genesis-- Wind & wuthering ( all in a mouses night. ;) Paradise Lost-- Icon Pink Floyd-- Wish You Here (24/96k) ( ah yeah...it's perfect. ) Judas Priest-- Nostradamus. ( ok. Been a good while since I've spun this album and wow did it ever come alive with me this time around. This is an insanely beautiful album, and proggy too! ) |

Hey Nick, head on over to the `Is This The Life We Really Want?' thread, there's plenty of my ramblings on the new Roger album over there!
![]() You know, I was very surprised about (from what I can tell) there only being a standard CD and a vinyl version of that album being available. I assumed it might have come in various DVD Audio, etc editions. Worst thing is it's in one of the cardboard digi-sleeve deals - urgh! ![]() Have you pre-ordered the new Nolan musical yet? I know I tagged you in Facebook about it, but I wasn't sure if you ended up putting a pre-order in for it already - I haven't yet, but plan on doing so. It's probably one of my most eagerly awaited discs of their year ![]() |

Sam. You are talking to a guy who completely understands. Man, I've got so many albums on the backburner. When you enjoy and like so much you financially start to prioritize. Anyway, the APP Vulture Culture disc. It's absolutely lovely to me. I mean in 1985 pop music had a certain level of sophistication to it and of course APP can blend the right amount of Prog to ignite a level of sophistication and accessibility. It's crossover Prog done quite well...almost as well as Duke! :) |

I got half way through the Van der Graaf Generator one, Sam, then lost interest. That was the first of their albums that I owned, so I guess I was kind of curious to revisit it for nostalgia...instead (surprise surprise), I'm still at the same point with it. I think I only listened to it because I saw it on my Ipod and thought `Why on Earth did this end up on here?'
![]() Today's choices: Roger Waters – Hmmm, I forget the title – the new one ![]() Dream Theater – The Astonishing Clive Nolan – Alchemy Hawkwind – The Machine Stops Mostly Autumn – Sight of Day Marillion - Fugazi Diagonal – The Second Mechanism (unbelievably good second album, what a shame no-one seemed to make much notice of it when it came out. Pretty much sets the prog/indie-rock crossover standard) |

Hey Sam. I have the reissue. It's absolutely great. A really wonderful remix, but I love the original more. Their is also a terrific live album disc that signifys Moonspell's mastery of playing this album live all over Europe.
I also really love the 'Radio edit' of opium. It's a tad more accessible with the use of Ribero's 'Clean Vocals.' A nice switch. Anyway. Glad you like this one. Viva la Portugal!!! ;) Today's top priorities. Black Sabbath-- Never Say Die! Headspace-- Pattern Recognition Marillion-- Different Stages (the Highlights reissue) Roger Waters-- Amused To Death (24/96k. Man, I can't wait for his next one. ) Jon Oliva's Pain-- Global Warning The Devin Townsend Project-- Bio Mech: Ocean Machine APP-- Vulture Culture. |
