“Thus did a handful of rapacious citizens come to control all that was worth controlling in America. Thus was the savage and stupid and entirely inappropriate and unnecessary and humorless American class system created. Honest, industrious, peaceful citizens were classed as bloodsuckers, if they asked to be paid a living wage. And they saw that praise was reserved henceforth for those who devised means of getting paid enormously for committing crimes against which no laws had been passed. Thus the American dream turned belly up, turned green, bobbed to the scummy surface of cupidity unlimited, filled with gas, went bang in the noonday sun.”

Exactly. Class is classless, but a classless society we don't have.

What class lacks now-a-days, is class.

Sadly it is Dean. Justice is for the wealthy. That's why celebrities and imbeciles like the kid in the news story get off with light sentences and poor people get harsh sentences. That's why certain drugs associated with poor people carry much stiffer penalties than those associated with wealthy people.
I posted the link here too but I deleted since I thought it didn't make sense to post it in two places. I guessed it could have some connections with a libertarian discussion, but I should have put it here. The US is far from classless. Classes are determined in a different way though and, unlike nobility, former low-class people can reach the higher class by obtaining enough of the green god. But class still rules anyway.

No, it's that few people bother with the Librarian thread any more. A news story however, is a news story even when politicised. Politics bores me ridged, US politics thrice so. The guy got off a custodial sentence through wealth, if wealth divides class then nowhere has a classless society and nowhere is apolitical. Justice should be non-partisan and classless but it never will be.

I think it mostly got lost in the ongoing argument. It's a shame that it
happens at all, but it happens all the time unfortunately.

I posted a link to that same news story (from a different apolitical website) yesterday in the libertarian thread. Sadly it seems that without the politics added to it it wasn't capable of getting any attention.
Disgusting. Justice once more proves to be another thing that the rich buy and the poor suffer. |

Of course, but that doesn't really lead to confusion, separating fact from propaganda in this instance isn't difficult.

The image was made for a reason and not an educational one clearly so I think there's an intention left to deduce.

Whatever floats your boat. If one outrages more than the other then the choice is easily made I would have thought.

The image confuses me. Am I supposed to be more outraged at the lack of justice for the four victims or at the political affiliation of the judge?

Affluenza? What kind of butt-snot dribble word is that? Time to stop making effing excuses and start making sence, reason, justice and all those other responsible words that already exist in the English language. Next numbnuts moron who invents a playground portmanteau word and uses it in a professional capacity should have it tattooed on their forehead (and other body parts beginning with fore-).

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A North Texas teen from an affluent family was sentenced to probation this week after he killed four pedestrians when he lost control of his speeding pickup truck while driving drunk, a punishment that outraged the victims' families and left prosecutors disappointed. The 16-year-old boy was sentenced Tuesday in a Fort Worth juvenile court to 10 years of probation after he confessed to intoxication manslaughter in the June 15 crash on a dark rural road. Prosecutors had sought the maximum 20 years in state custody for the Keller teen, but his attorneys appealed to state District Judge Jean Boyd that the teenager needed rehabilitation not prison, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. A Japanese man discovers he was accidentally switched at birth, and his birth parents were wealthy.
He lived a life of poverty, living on welfare and being a truck driver while the baby switched with him grew up in an affulent lifestyle and runs a business.
Both were upset and the impoverished man was quite angry. While this is understandable, does make ya think...With so many views on the poor, and wealthy, nutty to think how none of us really "deserve" anything. No say who we are born to, and imagine a human error altering the lives of two people so radically.
Also, I wonder if this is a rare occurance in Japan. It seemed surprising, though it happens here I know

Very sad news. One of my family friends was one of his personal doctors. Apparently he was not well for years...
