Saddest Song Ever

'Timetable', 'Seven Stones', 'Ripples' and 'For Absent Friends' by Genesis all have an undertow of sadness to these ears; their melodies have a deep rooted flavour of regret imo...

Also, 'Awaken' by Yes and 'The Last Goodbye' by Camel always move me a great deal as they seem to be a last throw of the dice for classic prog in a sense; neither band ever managed to reach the peaks those songs reached ever again imo.

Outside of prog, 'He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother' by The Hollies, 'She's Leaving Home' by The Beatles, 'Cold Morning Light' by Todd Rundgren and the harrowing 'Dark Globe' and 'If It's In You' by Syd Barrett also have very moving power.

But I Just can't find right now the saddest song for me...

House with no door by vdGG is really sad. As for non -prog, about anything by Damnien Rice really depresses me although it's great music.

It's just for avoid a bad interpretation for someting I say in the future, with the time Im going to change the signature.




Another sad song can be Watcher of the Skies.

Most that I can think of have already been said. I'll add "Home" and "The Tide is Turning" by Roger Waters off of Radio K.A.O.S. A lot of instrumental music is just as depressing (e.g. some GY!BE and some of Eno's ambient work).

My top three would have to be Undertow- pain of salvation, space dye vest-dream theater,  and Hurt- johnny cash's cover, trent reznor doesnt do anythign for me. hurt tops the list though... extremely sad. oh so sad...  also, honorable mention goes to the non-prog song Nutshell by alice in chains. very beautiful... one of my all time favorites. hmmm now i need some PROZAK...

It was Terry Jacks who did that depressing one.

I have it by both but I didn't know which done it. Actually, I remember reading that the original one was written by a french musician or something like that. Anyway, beautiful song.

So depressing, along with many others from this band
