You must include Into Eternity!!! What a amazing prog metal band, it's like Opeth but getting tecnically crazy. Strongly recommended. Buried In Oblivion is an excellent album.

Much agreed about Into Eternity, and I must also agree with the statement that Opeth is not extreme metal, they are symphonic progressive death/black metal, nothing is extreme about them, they are heavy but overall very Bluesy.

The albums released by Death in the 90's are in my opinion light years away from any of the other listed bands' output (except Atheist), at least in terms of virtuosity display and intricate arrangements. Unfortunately, probably turned off by the band's name, not many proggers seem to be aware of their work. And what a musical treasure this band has left behind.

Well I'm gonna have to go with Anal c**t. UP THE GRINDCORE!
Actually I'll go with Opeth, although they aren't really that extreme. They're my favorite band, but they aren't all that extreme.
Meshuggah rape, not literally, but still they just blow my mind.
If I want my prog-metal extreme though, I usually go with black metal that has crossed over into prog.

As if anyone would vote for a band other than Opeth when they are in a poll like this...

I'm listening to Behold...The Arctopus and these guys are just insane.
Sleep Terror is another insane metal band. Grindcore instrumental amazes me.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I liked the Death-Necro-Metal option so I chose that.
I don't agree with the genre labels, but if I had to choose who my favourite band was out of that list it would be My Dying Bride.
