Perhaps not really a solo, perhaps not my favourite, but the guitar solo on Focus' Birth is amazing.

Yes great choices - to me Shine on you Crazy Diamond was Floyd's best. It aslo illustrates that sheer speed doesn't necessarily win the day.

Stairway to Heaven:
The way Jimmy interrupt's the vocals to start his solo is wonderful and very very amazing

La Villa Strangiato:
always, always always love to hear this song, cause the section when only are drums and keys ans Lifeson starts doing something wonderful and beautiful with its guitar is so relaxing, and then going up, and faster, simply amazing

also fly by night solo

I dunno, I've heard too much solos to pick only one jaja

Gotta agree with ya on Randy and Eddie, pure sweetness there. Along the same lines i would have to include Trevor Rabin's "Cant Look Away" solo, Gary Moore's "Shapes of Things" soloClap

Still compiling my fav's in the Prog Arena

The only way I can listen to drum solos is if there are other instruments playing too! Wink

I with you on this one (although you missed the "t" in Akerfeldt).  Almost any of his solos in a soft song should qualify for best solo ever.

John Petrucci- Beyond This Life
David Gilmour- Comfortably Numb

Ya i agree. Tarkus isn't really one long solo, but there are hundreds of tiny little solo snippets, that just sound fantastic!

The last seven minutes is a cool song.

Yes. But did you hear it on their latest live show? I don't think it came across too well, and Phil Collins sounded so bored during that...

The live John Bonham one on the ocean
Vinnie Coulliata (I can't remember the song)
