Hot Rats will always win these. As far as early FZ goes, it's an easy listen. Not to mention that it contains the great Peaches.
For the 0 vote-getters:
Freak Out: this is a five-star album all the way, but I think you had to be there. So let's say it hasn't aged particularly well.
Lumpy Gravy: just not very good.
Ruben: FZ's take on doo-wop is not appreciated sufficiently. If they'd release the original on CD it would at least be listenable. Ray Collins is da man.

expected Hot Rats to be the front runner, was giving We're Only in It for the Money a fighting chance, Uncle Meat having nearly as many votes right now as Money surprises me a bit even though it is a great album

Tough choice, but I'll also go with Money.
Ruben, by the way, is quite good if you can get hold of the LP.

No love for Lumpy Gravy? Not a 5* classic, but definitely repays careful listening. |
I got love for Lumpy Gravy, but not as much as for 1. Uncle Meat 2. We're Only In It For The Money 3. Hot Rats 4. Absolutely Free 5. Freak Out!

We're Only In It For The Money, definitely. It's still one of my favorites.

Hmm, I now have all those except for Ruben. The '70's will probably be the hardest for me. I'll go with Money, an excellent parody of Sgt. Pepper and '60's hippie music. Excuse me while go take my clothes off and dance. Then I think I'll go on with my drinkin' and drive home in my Lincoln.

There! I seem to have tipped the balance a bit. It's Hot Rats for me. And, yes, picking out an album from the 70s is going to be really hard (but I already know which one I'm going for).

of course I have to go with Uncle Meat, which is a great album, although I pretty much like all mentioned albums (even Ruben which sounds better on vinyl than on cd). but Uncle Meat is I think the most ecclectic here. however, Hot Rats will probably win. I'm looking forward to the 70's
